1 Leadership Communication Strategy Joshua Stoycoff Capella University MHA FPX 5012: Org. Leadership and Governance Dr. Andrea Lowe December 2023
RUNNING HEAD 2 Strategic Leadership Leadership is an integral component of every healthcare organization that desires success. Strategic leaders understand the organization's needs and can develop plans and action items to drive the organization forward in alignment with the organization's vision, mission, and goals. Understanding the organization's vision is critical for the strategic leader to develop policy change proposals, short and long-term goals, and the ability to create a focused and efficient work environment. Strategic leaders understand the value of open and efficient communication to convey changes and momentum in the workplace. Additionally, strategic leaders analyze the organization's culture and can then make informed decisions to morph the culture to align it with the organization's vision, mission, and goals ( Budak & Kar, 2014). Strategies and Methods for Key Stakeholder Buy-in Strategic leaders understand that early and consistent communication is essential for key stakeholder buy-in for policy and organizational changes. Through open and consistent communication with key stakeholders, early buy-in comes easier through early involvement with stakeholders. Strategic leaders will locate champions with influence, partner with them, and build program sustainability. Strategic leaders will set and manage expectations through regular meetings and open communication strategies with stakeholders. A common strategy for strategic leaders involves creating a sense of urgency, creating a leadership coalition, developing a long- term vision of short and long-term, communicating the vision/change, removing barriers, empowering others, developing short-term wins or interim results, building on the “change” movement, and lastly embed the changes in the culture of the organization ( Hubbart, 2023).
RUNNING HEAD 3 Effective Communication Strategies The first strategy in effective communication to drive a vision in the organization to leaders and key stakeholders is understanding and knowing the audience. Strategic leaders understand their audience and will tailor their message accordingly. For example, emailing important information may be the best approach for a corporate audience with various schedules. Next, effective communication requires proper tone, language, and conciseness. Getting to the point sooner will allow the audience to digest the information quicker and allow an expedited buy-in process. Integration of the audience is an effective strategy that allows feedback and questions. When the audience is engaged, new ideas can form, assisting the organization's vision, mission, and goals as a team moving forward. Transparency is a crucial component of effective communication strategies. Transparency allows the team to know and understand each step of the communication pathway and the direction of the dialogue ( Blevins, 2023). Strategic Communication and Alignment Understanding the internal and external environment of the organization will help define and understand its culture. The organization's culture depicts how each team member works together and how each patient is treated. Strategic leaders will align their communication strategies and efforts with the culture of the stakeholders to further drive the organization’s vision, mission, and goals. Furthermore, understanding the community's current needs will assist the strategic leader in formulating future efforts in their communication strategies. Aligning communication efforts to the current and future patient needs will enhance stakeholder buy-in as it targets patient care needs already established in the culture. Alignment methods include establishing a solid vision for the future, embedding the vision internally, and providing resources and training to the organization. Many changes in organizations will experience

RUNNING HEAD 4 failures and victories; it is imperative that leaders appropriately measure success and failure accurately and make changes to continue the drive forward ( Gede & Admasu, 2023). Advocacy Communication Strategy Strategic communication enables groups to align on specific goals and timeframes that ultimately drive their actions, energy, resources, and capabilities in the same direction. Strategic leaders who desire to align goals and objectives in collaboration with teams and key stakeholders must do the following. Firstly, comprehensive, thorough communication is the first step to appropriately relay the vision with essential details about how to deliver the vision with actionable steps forward. Secondly, a strategic leader will prioritize communication with employees and key leaders while including the wider audience, such as external stakeholders, regulators, community leaders, and organizational change-makers (Ihlen, 2020). The strategic leader will create a visualization to create intrigue and spark imagination by building excitement for a better future for the organization by focusing on the opportunities and possibilities in the future, describing the impact of the future through the contributions of each individual and together as a team. Next, challenge the status quo by encouraging the team to try new paths to enhance personal and organizational growth. Focusing on what matters most will assist the team in finding motivation to change personally and as a unit. Strategic leaders need to be transparent in outlining proposed changes to the team that include behaviors, activities, and potential outcomes (Ihlen, 2020).
RUNNING HEAD 5 Conclusion Real change in organizations requires all stakeholders to be on the same page and the same team. Strategic leaders must present personal conviction and passion when relaying the vision, challenging the status quo, and encouraging the team to do the same. Additionally, transparency in communication, actionable steps, failures, successes, and advancing gradual changes are effective strategies for creating advocacy and teamwork. Lastly, making the vision personal to each person will allow them to understand their part in the vision while outlining the steps forward for each individual and as a team.
