Scene 1 In this scenario the teacher should be having a parent meeting with a guidance counselor and or building administrator. The teacher can also send out an email with guidance and admin. CC’d. I wonder if the teacher has been sending home updates and letting the parent know as these lies were unfolding. This incident seems to be a surprise to the parent, this probably would not happen if there was an open line of communication. Scene 2 In this scenario the meeting with the student, teacher, and principal should have been had with the students’ parent in attendance. It is not ok to ask the teacher to bend on his grading policies to accommodate a defiant student. This is also not fair to other students who may be having trouble in the class, they are not afforded the same opportunity as the defiant student. The teacher in this case should not cut the student any slack instead, offer after school help to get the student ready for the test. Scene 3 In this scenario this teacher should handle anything they could from the classroom level including setting up a plagiarism detection on google classroom and making calls home to discuss the student plagiarizing with parents. Scene 4 The teacher should consider all offers and go with the one that makes most sense to the school and faculty, and not let personal feelings sway his decision.
A code of ethics is a set of principles and guidelines that outline the moral and professional behavior expected from individuals in a particular profession or organization. In the context of education, a code of ethics helps teachers establish and maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment. This will help explain how having a code of ethics supports your plan in the classroom and contributes to creating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and growth. Having a code of ethics provides a framework for teachers to guide their actions and decisions in the classroom. It sets clear expectations for professional behavior, which helps create a safe and respectful learning environment for students. When teachers adhere to a code of ethics, they demonstrate integrity and professionalism, gaining the trust and respect of their students. This will help the teacher develop a positive classroom climate where students feel valued and supported. A code of ethics promotes fairness and equality in the classroom. It ensures that all students are treated with respect and provided with equal opportunities to learn and succeed. By following ethical guidelines, teachers avoid favoritism, discrimination, and bias, creating a level playing field for all students. This inclusivity helps to establish a supportive classroom climate where students feel accepted and empowered to express their thoughts and opinions. A code of ethics also emphasizes the importance of confidentiality and privacy in the classroom. Teachers are entrusted with sensitive information about their students, such as academic records, personal struggles, and family situations. Respecting students' privacy and maintaining confidentiality not only builds trust but also creates a safe space where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, concerns, and challenges. This trust and openness contribute to a supportive classroom climate where students can freely seek help and engage in meaningful discussions. Having a code of ethics promotes professionalism and sets high expectations for teachers' interactions with students, colleagues, and parents. It emphasizes the importance of respectful and effective communication, collaboration, and cooperation. When teachers model these behaviors, they create a positive example for students to follow, fostering a classroom climate characterized by mutual respect, teamwork, and a sense of community. A code of ethics plays a vital role in supporting your plan in the classroom and contributes to the creation and maintenance of a supportive classroom climate. By adhering to a code of ethics, teachers establish clear expectations for professional behavior, promote fairness and equality, respect student confidentiality, and emphasize professionalism. These ethical guidelines help cultivate a positive learning environment where students feel valued, respected, and supported in their academic and personal growth. In my code of ethics plan I will start with rearranging the seats in the classroom so I can see every student. I will not tolerate any bullying or threatening behavior. Some components of my plan include positive teacher- student relationships, positive atmosphere with structure and routines. At the beginning of the year, I will create a social contract with my students to give every student a chance to be heard. How would you like to be treated? How do you think I want to be treated?
