policy exists to protect Pre-service Teachers, education settings and their students. Swinburne University of Technology has approval for employees in early childhood settings to undertake some professional placement units in a workplace where they are employed. This placement can also be undertaken in an Early Childhood setting that is owned by the same organisation, or within a setting where a group of Early childhood services work together and are able to switch pre-service teachers. The above Pre-service Teacher has notified us that they would like to complete a placement at your education setting. If you agree that this will not impact the completion of this placement, please complete the following: Education setting agrees to the following: ☐
We acknowledge that a Conflict of Interest exists, however we are able to manage the placement and provide the Pre-service Teacher with an objective assessment ☐
To nominate a Mentor Teacher who will be able to give a fair and objective assessment ☐
The Mentor Teacher must not be a close co-worker or close friend ☐
The Mentor Teacher must not have previously acted in this position for the Pre-service Teacher ☐

Education settings will receive an email acknowledging receipt of this request •
Pre-service Teachers will receive an email confirming the request has been approved Before the placement begins When you take a placement in your employment setting you will need to arrange a meeting with your employer (Centre Director). This meeting is to ensure that both you and your employer are aware of the specific requirements of the placement and to discuss how this affects your regular work hours and tasks that you usually undertake. Ensure that the room where you are taking the placement meets the age requirements for the placement. •
Ensure that regular roles and rosters are altered for the duration of the placement as/when required. •
Ensure that your regular tasks related to your employment are covered by other staff so that you are able to complete the placement requirements without interruptions •
That the Centre Director communicates to other staff that you will be undertaking a placement (start date / end date). Pre-service Teacher - during the placement If at any stage there is an interruption to the placement requirements or expectations because of the need for you to undertake regular duties that are a part of your employment role and not the placement. You need to: •
Let the employer Centre Director know Contact your eLearning Advisor (eLA) Communication process to follow when you are asked to undertake tasks outside the placement requirements: It may be uncomfortable to address this issue with the Centre Director, however it is very important that you meet the requirements of your placement. Your eLearning Advisor (eLA) will be able to support you in this process via the following steps: •
Contact your eLA as soon as possible via email about your concerns •
Do not wait until the end of the placement to raise these concerns •
Once you put forward your concerns and an interruption to the placement is confirmed by your eLA •
Your eLA will contact your Centre Director to support liaising with the appropriate staff to work through the issues to determine the best outcome for you so that you are able to successfully complete the placement.
