Conflict Log Alexandra R. Sapp Grand Canyon University COM-312: Conflict and Negotiation Professor Taylor Moore February 4, 2024 Conflict Log After keeping track of the negative thoughts I have about people throughout the week, I was able to notice a few themes emerging. One of these themes comes from my actions. I noticed that I started to have different negative thoughts that were based solely off my actions. An example of this is from this past weekend where I didn’t want to go to a family party, but my mom guilt tripped me into going. I then decided I would just go for a little bit to catch up with family, and make my mom happy since I knew she wanted me to be there. This resulted in me getting annoyed with people and left me short-tempered, because I was somewhere where I didn’t want to be in the first place. When this happens, it leads me to have negative thoughts about people, even if it is family or close friends. This relates to my personal TRIP goals because
it relates to the personal relationships that I have in my life, along with my personal identity. According to the textbook Interpersonal Conflict, the author states that “People in conflict try to maintain their sense of self. When one feels misunderstood, and then blamed, conflict turns into a high-intensity struggle over a scarce resource—in this case, a positive sense of self and the knowledge that one is viewed positively by others (Hocker, 2021).I feel like this led me to being frustrated and short-tempered because I struggled to tell my mom that I didn’t want to go to the family party, which led me to having conflict. I noticed over this past week that a lot of the time, I make my decisions based upon what other people will think of me, instead of deciding what I really want to do. References Hocker, . (2021).
