Critical Theory Reflection This assignment satisfies the following curriculum expectations: OC3.0 – Reflecting on Skills and Strategies RLS4.0 – Reflecting on Skills and Strategies W4.0 – Reflecting on Skills and Strategies MS4.0 – Reflecting on Skills and strategies Task: Utilizing either success criteria, evidence of learning and/or descriptive feedback and conversations throughout the year, students will actively show how they can think through their own learning (metacognition). Students will build on their ability to think and reflect on their learning throughout the ENG4U OLSSS Course. CRITICAL THEORY REFLECTION (Personal Response) [Yes, you can use personal language…] Reflecting on your experience throughout the course, and after all our learning together, please explain: (you can use point form or full sentences to explain your response) How has your understanding of literary criticism influenced your reading and understanding of texts AND the world around you? You are required to use specific concepts , vocabulary, and examples from the modes of lit crit discussed in class and insights from your own observations to support your answer. Differentiated Response to the question can include: Paragraph Response Audio Response (audio only or audio-video) Concept Map Jamboard Learning Goals: - Students will demonstrate their ability to think metacognitively - Students will display effective communication ability - Students will demonstrate knowledge of learning areas (e.g., success criteria, given feedback, critical theory) and will exhibit successful application of learning areas. Success Criteria: - I can apply knowledge of learning areas to other areas of life/education - I can complete all course work in time in order to receive teacher feedback in preparation for my final conversation - I can develop and describe strengths and next steps throughout the semester - I can communicate my ideas and work in a clear and effective manner This is due Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 - 11:59AM (NOON)
Initial Steps: Students will keep and note all learning pieces (formative and summative evaluations) given to them throughout the year: success criteria, evidence of learning, descriptive feedback; students should write down conversations they have with their teacher as well. Utilizing the learning pieces they have collected throughout the year, students will complete a worksheet or Google Doc for each learning strand in the English curriculum that they have worked through this year: reading, writing, oral communication and media (depending on their grade requirement). Students will discuss how they tried to improve in each area. Classroom Learning At the year end conversation, students will use previously handed out conversation organizers with guiding questions to frame their discussion. Out-of-School Contexts, Experiential Learning Some examples of the requirements of this conversation and/or potential questions that may be included on the organizer could be asking students to connect what they learned through this metacognitive process to out-of-school contexts. Strengths and Next Steps In addition, students will also be asked to reflect on their strengths and next steps with regards to learning skills and create specific/personal learning skill, next step success criteria related to tasks they completed throughout the course; this will aid in future student learning and development
