Assignment 2: Oral presentation of research report - Overview
Students are to upload an audio or video file outlining a policy brief based on one of the case studies used in the course or on a policy evaluation/analysis that has been approved by
the convener. Those students who used the Work for the Dole evaluation or COVID Jobseeker/Jobkeeper analysis in Assignment 1 will need to choose a separate case study. Students should aim to speak for 6-8 minutes with an absolute maximum length of 10 minutes (
presentations longer than 10 minutes will receive a mark of 0
).
The policy brief is worth 20% of the overall mark for the course. Learning outcomes that the assignment will test are: (1) interpret data to inform real world decisions; (2) understand the
assumptions, strengths and limitations of different types of data for informing decision making; (4) communicate complex data to a non-specialist audience. Submissions are to be made through the Wattle website and are due on 9am Tuesday 16
th
May 2022
.
Policy brief – Detailed questions and requirements
In preparing your brief, please address the following sub-questions. 1.
What is the policy question that the analysis was attempting to address?
2.
What were the implications of the findings?
3.
How should policy makers respond?
The policy brief should be presented as an audio or video file, or as a Powerpoint-style presentation with embedded audio.
Extensions and penalties
Extensions and late submission of assessment pieces are covered by the Student Assessment (Coursework) Policy and Procedure. The Course Convener may grant extensions for assessment pieces that are not tutorial participation. If you need an extension, you must request it in writing on or before the due date. If you have documented and appropriate medical evidence that demonstrates you were not able to request an extension on or before the due date, you may be able to request it after the due date. Late assignments will attract a 5% deduction per working day. Resubmission of assignments
The resubmission of assignments is not permitted in this course. Under exceptional circumstances, a written application may be submitted to the convenor stating reasons for a
request to resubmit. The convenor will then make a decision for resubmission/re-sit and email the student notifying them of the decision.
