Helen, on the other hand, is motivated by her high standards and belief that spelling is a crucial skill that all students must master, even if it puts some students at a disadvantage. Ultimately, the conflict arises from differing beliefs
about what is fair and necessary for academic success.

modifying instructional methods and materials include providing different formats of information, incorporating multisensory approaches, breaking down tasks into smaller steps, giving extended time for tasks, and providing visual aids or prompts. These strategies aim to address the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities and support their academic success.
Mary made several instructional accommodations and modifications for Jim in spelling, such as reducing the number of words given, providing flashcards for studying, and allowing for more practice opportunities. She tried different strategies, like presenting words on different days and in different ways, to help Jim improve his spelling skills. However, these modifications were not as effective in helping Jim succeed in spelling tests, as he continued to struggle. This showed that further accommodations were needed.
