Social Media Post Free Speech – Maui Fundraiser
Social Media Post: It is with deep sorrow that we'd like to address the unfortunate destruction and damages of which
the wildfires have caused throughout the Hawaiian islands. Items that were of value such as properties, vehicles, homes, and schools were burned to ashes. But most importantly thousands of innocent lives from as little as small children to as older as the elderly have perished in these fires. It will not only take an extensive amount of time to repair the damage that has been lost, but it will also compel financial support during this time of crisis and loss for many. With this being said, we'd like to take action in providing relief through conducting a fundraiser for the people and island of Maui. All costs or funds that are donated to this event will immediately be sent and contributed to rebuilding homes, schools, stores, and businesses. In addition to this, we'd also intend for any donations to additionally serve as an aid to contribute to families, businesses, and citizens that have been afflicted during this time. Please also consider that there are other sources of help or opportunities of service in addition to, or as an alternative to donations if you'd like to contribute to this fundraiser.
Legal Aspects: In most cases a fundraising event must be regulated by state law. In other words we, as a charity, or organization may need to be registered with the state of Maui in addition to being aware of additional legal aspects that are specific to Maui.
Perceptions: Usually people can discern the intent or integrity of a charity, but I know most of them are usually skeptical at first glance as to where exactly are they donating to, in addition of wondering if the funds fundraised will actually be used to what was said it will be used for. 1. Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne Johnson Fundraiser
Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne Johnson are clearly financially well, as Oprah also owns property on the island of Maui. I'm not entirely certain if they were registered to do so, but by blindly looking at their status and funds, I'm certain they'd be covered in the legal aspects before hosting their fundraiser. As far as ethics is concerned of this "fundraiser" they were rightfully questioned and even slandered for lack of integrity behind this fundraiser. Why would two celebrities who are more than financially capable to contribute funds or even donating generously themselves ask a community of others to help pay for the damages instead. Legally, I think they were fine, however they suffered severely ethically.
2. Save the Children Campaign
Finally, there's the Save the Children Campaign where the ethics and integrity of this campaign is deeply valued in my eyes. Save the Children is an International Non-profit organization that offers protection and knowledge to children around the world. I believe this organization also practices ethical issues considering many of the concerns that children have suffered with around
the world. In connection to human trafficking and other hardships that young children have unfortunately faced or have had to see, this organization serves with the intent to remedy or counteract the difficulties.
