DQ 1.1- Post #2 First, I’m amazed at all you’ve gone through; experiencing so many significant life events over the last ten years is no easy feat. Even though it was challenging, it sounds like it has given you the strength and ability to become more resilient than before. Sometimes, these challenging moments propel us towards accomplishing our goals, as it has for you.  Reading your post made me consider self-disclosure and how it could be appropriate in some instances, such as helping to mitigate feelings of aloneness (Shebib, 2020). Normalizing a client’s thoughts, experiences, or feelings could encourage the client to open up further (Shebib, 2020). However, self-disclosure may backfire as it can shift the focus from the client to the counsellor, steering the client to try to escape their problems and making them feel inclined to become the helper and console the counsellor (MACP Skills Learning Lab, n.d.). MACP Skills Learning Lab (n.d.) states that when using self-disclosure, the content must be relevant, and the goal should be to help the client move forward in their healing journey. What are your thoughts on self-disclosure, and do you think it will be a valuable tool for your future counselling practice? References MACP Skills Learning Lab. (n.d.) .
