Module 3 Short response Southern New Hampshire University OL 125 Taylor Johnson Communication plays one of the biggest roles in day to day living. How we communicate with one another is how things get done. When in the workplace, having proper communication skills is a very crucial factor. The main functions of the communication process is broken down into three parts. Coordination of effort helps people work together towards the same goals. So basically, you start with a sender of the encoded message, then you have to transmit your information, is the sender going to speak his message out loud, write it down on a piece of paper and post it in the break room? The receiver(s) then decode the message. It is up to the sender to give a clear message so that the receiver(s) interpret what is being addressed appropriately. The last part of the communication skills process is the sharing of emotions and feelings. The part is important for us as people to unite together and form bonds to share experiences with and celebrate with. A common communication barrier is emotion disconnection. When the sender or the receiver can’t put their emotions to the side to get through a needed task. I was a waitress at a breakfast restaurant for several years, and last year, there was a mistake done on an order for one of my tables. It was an easy fix, no big deal. There was and probably still is a language barrier between the

And I let my emotions take the best of me and consume me. I ended up not being able to address my feelings with her over it and quit my job over the whole deal. If I would have just walked away for a few minutes and calmed down I could have had a professional conversation with my boss and things would have been differently. When it comes to using my leadership skills and communication, I know I have grown since my walk out of my IHOP job last year. I have learned to have professional conversations with not only my coworkers but my superiors. I have learned how if something is bothering me about my schedule or another coworker that I can have an easy conversation with my boss and get something worked out. When I started my new job, I was asked if I would close my store every day at 6:30 PM. It was only going to be a temporary schedule and after someone else was hired I would alternate every other day getting off at 3:00 PM and 6:30 PM. It has now been 1 year and 3 months of closing every day. It doesn’t bother me to work the hours I work, but I would like to get off early some days so I can do more with my family. I had a sit down with my boss and expressed to her my feelings about closing every day, and we came up with a great schedule together giving me better hours and even a little overtime!
