Name: Zsane Carson COM 181 (4214_55Z1) Date: 11/14/20 Why to go Vegan General Purpose: To persuade. Specific Purpose : To persuade my audience to transition and/or continue eating plant- based foods. Central Idea: Eating plant-based foods has a lot of benefits on your mind and body. Method of Organization: Monroe's Motivated Sequence. INTRODUCTION Attention Step In the last American 20 years children’s health has declined childhood obesity, increase in heart disease, diabetes and so much more health constantly on the rise now the US life expectancy has gone fallen by 1.5 years since last year. While of course it is not completely because of health homicides and other circumstances also effects it is a contribution and one that we do have complete control over. Eating a plant-based diet has proven to help with many if not all health problems in some aspect whether getting rid of it completely or helping mostly. With the information that I have researched, observed, and personally experienced, I want to persuade you to either transition or continue to eat plant-based foods. BODY Need Step I. Americans life expectancies has declined due to high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes all attributed to diet. A. How a plant-based diet can help lower cholesterol or keep it low. 1. A 2017 study showed that people who ate a plant-based diet had lower cholesterol, LDL ( “bad” cholesterol), levels than people with omnivorous diets.
2. A low fat plant-based diet reduced LDL levels by 15 to 30% B. The effects that food have on cardiovascular disease as done by a study of 29,682 participants. (Marla) 1. Consuming two servings weekly of red meat, processed meat has been linked to a 3 to 7 percent increase of having cardiovascular disease and a premature death. 2. People who ate two servings of poultry weekly had a 4 percent higher risk of having a cardiovascular disease. C. How going plant based helps with diabetes. 1. After just weeks of eating plant-based foods people saw an improvement in their weight, HbA1c ( test   measures the amount of blood sugar (glucose) attached to hemoglobin) levels(dropped) and their insulin sensitivity improved 2. A 2003 study done on the subjects with type two diabetes. NIH (National Institutes of Health) showed that eating plant-based foods- controlled blood sugar three times more effectively than a traditional diet for people with diabetes, (Medicine) . Satisfaction Step II. Fortunately there are effortless ways to transition and stay consistent in eating plant- based diets A. Effortless ways to transition to plant based (minor changes) 1. Research the different plant-based diets and their benefits and pick one that you feel will benefit you the most. 2. Start with eliminating one thing at a time for your diet (eggs, dairy, or meat) B. How to stay consistent 1. Pick a day to meal prep for the week (Sunday) 2. Stock your pantry with plant-based snacks and healthy alternatives and backups of food. 3.Watch your d
Visualization Step III. Visualize the life you want to live. A. Continuing to feel low on energy, sick, depressed etc. 1. Only or drinking carbonated drinks (soda). 2. Going out to eat constantly (McDonalds, Wendy’s, etc.). 3. Only eating processed foods (chips, pasties, meat, breakfast cereal, etc.). 4. Looking up new unhealthy recipes instead of healthy recipes to cook. B. Or transition into repairing your body and mind with plant-based foods. 1. Start your mornings adding fruits and for dinner add vegetables 2. Take meat out of diet so that your cholesterol can go down, heart health improves and blood sugar drop. CONCLUSION Action Step In closing, you are what you eat. If you eat processed foods daily with little to no fruit, vegetables, nuts, etc. you are going to feel tired all the time, mood swings, obese, and have so many more health problems. As opposed to eating fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc. and having energy, little to no mood swings, at a health weight and so much more. It all depends on you and what kind of life you want to live and realistically how long you will live it depending on what you eat. Also, it is never to late to reap the benefits of a plant- based diet the only thing is you must remain consistent. Works Cited Amy Richter, RD, Nutrition.
