In my speech on Autism and its under-diagnosis in women, I aimed to convey a personal connection to the topic while presenting factual information. One strength of my introduction was using a personal anecdote about my siblings and myself, which added a human touch and engaged the audience. It helped create a relatable context for the audience to connect with the topic. However, one area for improvement was the length of the introduction; it could have been more concise to maintain audience interest and focus on the main points.
What I Did Well
In addressing the definition of Autism and its presentation in women versus men, a notable strength was the clear structure of my speech. I provided a logical progression by first defining Autism, then discussing gender differences, and finally addressing the issue of misdiagnosis. Using a study from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry added credibility to my argument. Additionally, I effectively used visual aids by referencing symptoms and statistics, aiding audience understanding.
Where I Struggled
My speech's pacing and delivery during the body section was a weakness. I sometimes rushed through information, potentially leaving the audience struggling to absorb key details. This
impacted the overall effectiveness of the speech. Moreover, while presenting symptoms specific to females on the spectrum, I could have included more examples or anecdotes to illustrate these points and make them more memorable for the audience.
Plan for Improvement
To improve future speeches, I plan to focus on pacing. I will practice delivering the information more moderately, allowing the audience to absorb and comprehend each point effectively. Additionally, I will incorporate more real-life examples and stories, making the content more relatable and engaging. This will help create a stronger connection with the audience, enhancing their understanding of the topic.
In the conclusion, I successfully summarized the key points of the speech and tied it back to my personal experience. I emphasized the broader societal implications of underdiagnosis in women.
However, one aspect of enhancing would be to end with a more impactful closing statement or call to action, leaving a lasting impression on the audience and reinforcing the importance of the topic.
Overall Plan for Improvement
I will prioritize maintaining a steady pace for future speeches, incorporating more anecdotes, and
refining my conclusion to create a more impactful and memorable presentation. By addressing
these areas, I aim to enhance the overall effectiveness of my speeches and ensure a more engaging and informative delivery.
