guide for assistance with in-text citations). Beyond appearances, a leader possesses many qualities. They are at their current position because of a variety of skills they possess. Integrity, bravery, motivation, and accessibility are a few of these qualities, but they are not the only ones.
The ability to wear multiple hats and my capacity to inspire and motivate people are my strengths. According to Messmer (2006), leaders in finance who are successful also inspire others around them. When I work with people, I always try to lift their spirits and push them to go above and beyond what is required of them, whether I am leading them or just following
alongside. Being able to wear several hats is another one of my other strengths.
Messmer (2006) states that the capability of wearing multiple hats is like "Financial leaders are pulled in many directions--providing advice on a business deal one minute and offering input on a purchasing decision the next--which makes it a challenge to keep constant tabs on growth and cost-
reduction strategies that will impact financial results positively." I rotate between positions constantly as a filler, and I can switch headwear within an instant.
There is weakness along with strengths. My biggest flaws are my lack of courage and my communication skills. My speech does not always sound the way I want it to, and I take great care when I do something different from what I usually do. Better communication would allow me to turn my weakness into a strength. Additionally, by stepping outside of my comfort zone and acting as though I were doing these things every day, I would be able to lead not only myself but also everyone around me.
