Reading Log
I did not know what to expect from the title of Chapter 6. I as well had not heard of cross-
cutting instructional approaches before. I had also not heard of high-leverage practices before
this. The information in this chapter was entirely new to me.
One way I will utilize the information from the chapter in my future classroom is by
collaborating with my colleagues. My team in the school would be my colleagues and there
needs to be communication between everyone.
Another way I will utilize the information in my future classroom is by acknowledging
the delivery of special education services and supports. The high-leverage practices can be used
as a starting point for teachers on how to design, select and implement the effective specially
designed instruction. I realized during the reading that many of these practices are already used
in multiple settings.
Lastly, a way I will utilize the information from the chapter in my future classroom is by
using high-leverage practices to help determine a student’s needs. As well as begin to involve
them in their IEP meetings and involvement as the students get older. I think having students be
involved in their IEP encourages them to be independent and make decisions. Likewise, I would
dislike getting older and feeling like I have no control over my learning.
A question I have related to the chapter is: is there a certain platform that educators and
colleagues use to communicate with each other? Do they communicate throughout the school
