Day Two: Print Concepts Cont.
Activity
The teacher will develop an integrated activity for the whole class where students will retell the
story.
Also, the teacher will develop prompt questions, share what he(or she) remembers, and allow
students to tell what they recall progressively.
Closure
The teacher will analyze and review students’ responses and appreciate them for their
contribution.
Assessment
The teacher will use informal observations to assess students’ comprehension of print concepts
and develop a checklist based on objectives.
After the reading ends, the teacher must develop an activity demonstrating the student’s
level of understanding. The teacher will use an integrated class activity where students will retell
their stories as they share their thoughts. Also, the teacher will use prompt questions such as
“Does anyone remember events that happened at the river? I remember that the water had a
splash sound as the family members crossed the river. What can you remember?”
the teacher
will allow students to share what they remember in their own words. Also, after the event, the
teacher will end the lesson by reviewing students’ responses and appreciate them for their
contribution. In the observation-based assessment, the teacher will assess students using a
checklist based on the lesson’s objectives.
Next-Generation ELA Standards
The lesson’s ELA standards focus on retelling, structure, craft, and print concepts.
They are;
Students’ identification of the story’s key details and textual ideas (KR2)
Students’ understanding of the book’s craft and structure (KR6)
Student’s understanding of print concepts (KRF1 (a, b, and e).
During the second day’s lesson, some standards that the teacher observed in the first
lesson are essential in the second one. The KR2 standard demands the teacher to ensure students
can retell stories and share key ideas and contextual details from the text. The craft and structure
standard (KR6) expects the teacher to ensure students can identify the book’s author and
illustrator and effectively define their role in the book’s idea and concept development. For
instance, students should identify the illustrator and their role in developing vivid images of the
text. Lastly, the KRF1 standards guide the teacher to ensure students can follow textual words
(page to page, top to bottom, and left to right), identify the representation of spoken words
through written language and by explicit letter sequences, and identify book title, front, and back
cover.
