Information and Knowledge Essay Information and Knowledge In this modern era of information and communication, someone's status in the world often depends on what that person knows. We, as humans, often think that what we believe is truth and stored in our brains as knowledge. I tell you however that just because you have a belief in something doesn't always make is knowledge and definitely not truth . For example, I could believe that President Clinton will be assassinated before he leaves office later this year. That does not mean that I have knowledge of this event; it was just a lucky guess (if it came to be). An ancient greek philosopher I am sure you are all familiar with, Socrates, once stated that true belief has to have "an account" or a justification ...show more content... No one can say that you are not in pain, the belief of the pain is in the first person and not reliant of external data or justification. Anything that does not fall into this category is a belief justified by something outside the first person or yourself. Beliefs about the external world need justification. The easiest way to explain this theory is to put it in a dialogue or "dialectic" form. Like a conversation between two people where one person proposes an idea or theory and the other person tries to reinforce or find fault in the other persons reasoning. For simplicity's sake let's say that I had the following dialogue with Joe, the guy with the dog on the mat. Joe: Hey Craig, my dog is on the mat. I see that my dog is lying on the mat. And sensing any physical object through one or more of my five senses has to guarantee that the object is in fact there in the real physical world. Craig: Wait a minute Joe, just because you are having sense data of the dog does not mean the dog exists in the real world. Let me explain, what you are seeing is a mental (electrical) representation of a dog on a mat. In your dreams you see, touch, taste, smell, and hear things. Are they real? I don't think so. I cannot doubt that you are having the sensory data, that is a self–justified belief. I can think of another possible scenario of you seeing the dog on the mat. You are actually dreaming, all this is empty space. Your belief cannot be justified Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
Informational Interview Examples I conducted my informational interview on September 20, 2017 with an Ohio University graduate, Christopher Nason. Mr. Nason graduated with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He currently is a member of a reverse engineering team at the Defense Logistics Agency which is part of the Federal Government Department of Defense. The company provides replacement parts and equipment for the United States ' Armed Forces. Chris's job involves analyzing designs or schematics of older parts still used by the military . Since this piece may no longer be manufactured commercially, Chris's team analyzes the data in order to identify the items so that they can be reproduced internally. His position involve a lot of research and project management. ...show more content... I did not know about the opportunities available for mechanical engineers through the federal government. I anticipated the field being a job of designing parts for military use, but I discovered that the company is much more. After my interview, I had a great understanding about what the DLA does. There are many engineering opportunities throughout the company. There are engineers that do design and outsource the manufacturing of products for military use, but there are other engineers such as Chris that work in reverse engineering teams. They take previously made products, and they analyze and research them. They reproduce and create designs so that these pieces can be outsourced for manufacturing. One aspect that stood out to me was the amount of job management skills that were required for the position. Mr. Nason's job entails working on a product from start to finish. His team is responsible for organizing research and design as well as outsourcing and managing the manufacturing process of the piece. Lastly, my interview reinforced the concept of teamwork in engineering. Chris works with a team of engineers every day. They must communicate ideas and organization amongst themselves and to the companies that will manufacture the products that they have Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Informational Interview Assignment Informational Interview Assignment Business is one of the most important careers in order for the world to grow and develop financially. In this assignment I tried to interview somebody who really inspires me and likes how he teaches. I've decided to interview Professor Timothy Myatt, he's my Business Tech teacher, and he has shown me many things since I have started at Trevecca. At the beginning, I asked him if he felt something for his profession like a calling. He told me that actually he didn't, his initial career of interest was Science or Chemistry. Professor Myatt, didn't really know what he was up to, but he definitely knew that he was into technology. Later, I asked if the person he was in college impacted him on his career or on his major, and he said yes, he wanted to figure ...show more content... What he answered was that a lot of people don't think about the same way as he does, but that what people don't realize is that there is many mathematics in the computer side, it foundation is mathematics. So the reason he thinks that why IT works is because of mathematics, so he would suggest as much math as possible if people want to do research. Finally I asked him who does he admire, he said that he can be an IT professional another place but in Trevecca he is a teacher. So what he admires the most is teachers who make their students learn and become interested on their class. Make students feel that they learn something when they come to their class, he wants his students to walkout form his class and think what they learned that day and think like " wow I have never thought that before" At last, what we were able to know from his was his spirit for the IT department since college. He told me a little more personal things about this life, his ups and downs. I was able to know a little bit more about his Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Informational Text Analysis This week there was a lot of material that was looked it. The topics included historical fiction, informational text, and nonfiction. All of these genres are very different. With historical fiction and nonfiction, the textbook went over what each genre is, the evolution of each, and some of the categories within the genre. The articles this week were about informational text and historical fiction . Along with the textbook and articles there were many books required for our picture book project, which were about many different topics. Historical fiction is a fun yet informational genre for people to read. "Reading historical fiction provides students with a vicarious experience for places and people they otherwise never know" (Rycik, Rosler, ...show more content... Informational and nonfiction books are similar in a lot of ways, but there are some key things about them that are different. They are the same in the fact that the information in both are true, the major difference is that informational text does not need to have all the organizational tools, that a nonfiction book requires. There is not a table of contents, glossary, or index. Informational text is important because they "build background knowledge and support content learning" (Yopp, Yopp, 2012 p.480). Informational books can be used when learning about a particular subject like nonfiction, informational text are just more relaxed when compared to nonfiction. An informational text I read this week is titled Ladybugs and this book is about ladybugs, tells different facts about what they are, the body of them, and other important facts about ladybugs. The difference between this book and the nonfiction book about Martin Luther King Jr, is that in Ladybugs there isn't any of the organizational tools used. This book is meant to teach a reader about ladybugs without it looking like a typical nonfiction Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
Information Is Knowledge Information is not knowledge, merely one of the raw materials needed to obtain it. Just as a pile of bricks is not a house –even though bricks are the raw materials necessary to build it– a pile of data is not a doctoral thesis, not even a newspaper article, although information is also the raw material you need to write them. Nobody in their right mind would mistake a house for a pile of bricks. However, this rather clumsy equivalence between something necessary –but not sufficient– to obtain an end in itself is often found in the public discourse on knowledge and information. This causes serious damage when understanding and managing the processes for acquiring knowledgeand assessing the capacity for action and communication between ...show more content... Because –for example– there is no point in having a high percentage of Internet connections if people go online only to play games, look at naked women, or do their shopping... This doesn't mean that it is not important to have a high number of technologically well–connected users; quite the reverse: it allows a number of important things: e–mail, browsing web pages, important relationships over the social networks; it stimulates commerce, offers significant opportunities for learning, increases efficiency in official transactions, avoids travel... in addition to a long list of other advantages that of course include and imply easy access to information –to vast quantities of information. But none of the above is the same as having attained the knowledge society. In a developed country like our own an important part of the population is already living in the information society , as it is relatively easy for them to obtain this information –the data– or to know where to get it (quite aside from the matter of the quality of that information; but for the sake of simplicity, let us forget this aspect –which is nonetheless far from trivial). Now, just as very few people know how to transform piles of bricks into houses, there are also very few people who know how to transform information into useful knowledge. Informational Interview Paper In the process of conducting an informational interview with a professional working in a career field of my interest, I have chosen to find someone who is in the field of Project Management. Considering that the Bachelor of Arts degree in Enterprise Leadership would give me a solidified background allowing students to hone their skills in innovation, entrepreneurship, communication, critical thinking, problem solving and leadership (iowajpec.org) along with a Business Administration minor, I think I could obtain the abilities for this career and is something I'd like to pursue. The person I've interviewed is Brittany Hoffman who has recently been promoted to Project Management Senior Consultant on the Implementation Strategy and Operations ...show more content... I've learned that your first job may not be what you were anticipating but it's always good to just kind of get your "foot in the door" and see where that can take you. I think the biggest thing I've learned aside from the skills you need for this certain Project Manager position, is that once you get the job, you're in. The hardest part is actually getting the job and the work you do within the company is what counts. If they see you as a hard worker, and a fun person to work with, you will see opportunities for advancement. For a Project Manager specifically, you'd need to be a strong communicator. You want to be able to work together and understand the roles along with having problem solving and decision making skills as well as experience in the industry and being familiar of company goals and expectations. After the interview, my desire to shoot for this kind of position has not changed. I've learned that Allstate is a company I'd look into based on the culture Brittany described. The way she also described her leadership role also aligns with what I'd envision and that is something I can see myself enacting. Knowing the kind of leadership characteristics that take place, I can use that knowledge to improve upon what I've already learned to prepare myself Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Information Privacy Information Privacy Name of the student The privacy of personal information related to the data stored on the computer systems is termed as Information privacy. The information privacy is related to privacy of personal data that is collected by various organizations for personal use. The private information can be stored in medical records, political records, criminal records, financial data, data on website or any information related to the business related which needs to be protected and keep it secured. There are also various other concerns that are to be dealt by the law enforcement agencies that are related to theft of identity in an organized way, mounting the entire country or the groups that are targeted for mass disruption, and also invasion of privacy. An individual can do only little from his/her side to protect against loss of privacy and identity theft . Thus to prevent and remediate identity theft, the FTC i.e. Federal Trade Commission has established a web page i.e. http://www.consumer. gov/idtheft which will act as a central repository and source of information and will prevent from any theft to identity. By introducing the Congress towards the end and limiting the use of Social Security Number (SSN) as much as possible in the legislation by the government. Colleges, universities and business organizations should not make use of SSN on forms and cheques and should also not display it on the public lists, ID cards of students or badges. The student information that is available on the college websites and portals and are easily accessible by any general public, may also result in loss of data and identity theft by utilizing preapproved and unsolicited credit cards. Thus students are raising such issues themselves (Chronicle of Higher Education, 2002) to prevent form loss and theft of information and identity. Also, the need for use of SSN should be examined and questioned by every educational institution to protect data theft. Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

As a result, I decided to conduct my interview with a professional that is associated with the business operations of athletics. Essay On Informational Interview Informational Interview Report The person who I conducted my informational interview was Chang Wang, Esq. I was acquainted with Mr. Chang Wang through a class he taught at the University of Minnesota. Professor Wang is a man of many professions; he is a lawyer, a professor, an actor and a writer. I could tell that he is extremely accomplished in his many careers through the list of schools he has taught at, awards he has received, the many licenses he's obtained, and the number of publications he has authored. Because of his busy schedule, I contacted him a month before the interview to solidify a schedule with him. I requested half an hour of his time, but he was very generous and gave me over an hour of his company. I wanted to interview Mr. Wang for my assignment because I always wanted to pick his brain and learn more about what he did at Thomson Reuters . Aside from completing this assignment and getting to know more about his work, I also had a different agenda of ultimately requesting a letter of recommendation in the ...show more content... Because of the lack of rights in China , he is zealous about the American legal system and is a strong proponent of democracy in China. Whether in his lifetime or after, he truly hopes for a better China with a "rule of law". I think Mr. Wang intentionally decided not to share the technicalities of work because he wanted to share the bigger picture of his work. His approach of sharing the significance of his work reminded me of the parable of the three stonecutters; how the first two stonecutters only saw the individualistic means of their work and how the third stone cutter embraced the broader vision of his work. I don't know if my future career will be the "best" of all the jobs, but I will have to find the significance of what I do and contribute to society someway, somehow with that Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Informational Interview Reflection Paper I feel the the informational interview went fairly well. I actually had the opportunity to work for Mrs. Kaur last summer so I knew her a little bit and was comfortable asking her questions. Also, having some prior knowledge of her work and background allowed me to ask address concerns that I may have not been able to without that pre–exisitng connection. I was able to learn a great deal about what actually goes into running a business and also learned about the great range of skills required to create your own company/business. Even though I learned a lot about the actual pratice of having your business, I feel I missed out on the educational aspects. Informative Speech On Anxiety Anxiety is one of the most common illnesses in America. Your palms can get sweaty, you get nervous and your blood pressure can increase. Some students can go through anxiety every day just by having to go to school or present in class like I am now. I am presenting a speech in front of a decent size class some of who I am familiar with and some of you who I barely know so that can be a bit scary and nerve racking. I will discuss what Anxiety is, how to diagnose it, and also how to treat it. It is very common and I'm pretty sure most of you know basically what it is. But just in case I will go over the main important things to know about Anxiety. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear . For a person with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time. The feelings can interfere with daily activities such as job performance, school work, and relationships. There are several different types of anxiety disorders. Examples include generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder , and social anxiety disorder. According to the American psychological association, Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and invisible changes like increased blood pressure. You can have OCD, phobias, panic attacks, and PTSD. OCD is basically anxiety that takes the form of obsessions and compulsions. I know many of you guys are scared of spiders or bees and that is Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

The Importance of Information Literacy Essay Information literacy skills are used for academic purposes, such as research papers and group presentations. They are used on the job–the ability to find, evaluate, use and share information is an essential skill. They are also used in consumer decisions, such as which car or vacuum cleaner to purchase, are critical. Last but not least, they are used by informed citizens in participating fully in a democratic society through voting (Kenney, 2007). Information literacy is conceivably the foundation for learning in contemporary environment of continuous technological change. As information and communication technologies develop rapidly, and the information environment becomes increasingly complex, educators are recognizing the need for ...show more content... They know where to look for the answer to both the common everyday information needs and for the answer to the more perplexing, less–easily–addressed, problems of life. They are familiar not just with where to look but also with the tools and processes required to find those answers. Zabel (2007) points out that efforts to train students to be adept at attaining information through a variety of mechanisms must be "integrated, relevant, ongoing, collaborative, and applied" if they are to be successful in preparing those students for success in their academic and professional careers (Zabel ,2007). For students to be adequately informed about the value of the university library and resources such as the Internet in information retrieval there must be a careful collaboration between teaching staff and library staff (Kenney, 2007). The focus in this task, of course, is preparing students not just for the immediate research project at hand but rather to prepare them to be life long learners, to prepare them to be successful and productive once they leave the academic environment and take up their chosen careers (Lauer & Yodanis, 2012). A search for information can take a variety of routes. It might entail a visit to the university library or to some other organization that maintains information on a particular subject. Academic libraries are indeed a critical tool in information Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Informational Interview Research Paper Informational Interviews When you meet with people for informational interviews, you can learn what they do in there jobs, how they prepared to do it, what they do and do not like about their jobs, and what advice they have to offer you. They may even have ideas for you after you share your goals and interests with them. Remember that an informational interview is not a job interview. Applying for a job is an entirely seperate process. While you can expect an informational interview to give you confidence and expand your network, you cannot expect it to result in a job offer. Just relax and enjoy learning about occupations. When contacting people to request informational interviews, introduct yourself and explane that you are gathering career information and how you got their names. General Information Essay ACC 476/726 – Auditing Discussion Case Questions Fall 2004 General Information The audit discussion cases are real–world examples of problems that auditors face in practice. Each individual case is brief, and every member of the class should read the case prior to class and come prepared to participate in class discussion. Instead of the questions in the casebook, we will discuss specific issues related to the topic currently being discussed in class. Writer's Workshop: Informative Writer's Workshop: Research Paper– Informative What is an Expository Writing? 'Expository' is a synonym of 'explanatory'. An expository essay, thus, is a piece of writing that explains or informs. It is meant to be based on fact and free of the writer's prejudices. Opinion is often expressed, but only if it is backed by fact. For example, if someone asked you to write an essay on the causes of World War II, you might write about Germany's losses in World War I, the Treaty of Versailles, the fall of the Weimar Republic and the rise of Hitler led Nazism. In other words, everything would be based on verifiable fact – an expository essay. The expository writing process is centered on four activities: Generate a rough idea or hypothesis. Informational Interview Paper For my informational interview I interviewed Hasty Elementary School Counselor Candace Thurman. Mrs. Thurman earned her B.A. in Psychology from Salem College and a MA Ed.S in Mental Health Counseling from Gardner Webb University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed School Counselor. Her maternal grandfather suffered from mental illness and was homeless. Seeing the impact his condition had on him as well as her family compelled her to choose a career in mental health. Mrs. Thurman worked in the middle school setting for 11 years. This year is her first year in an elementary school. It was interesting to learn about her everyday routine. She begins with periodic check–ins with students to make sure everything is going okay. She then handles referrals from teachers about behavior issue concerns. She also spends time in the classroom and does lessons in small groups. Aside from her standard counseling responsibilities she serves on various committees ...show more content... Thurman obtained a degree not solely in school counseling which allows her more flexibility. She shared with me that the least rewarding part of her job is when working with the families or students and she feels like she has tried a variety of concepts and still cannot see a difference being made. It's a struggle because as a counselor she wants to be able to help people. On the flip side of the spectrum however, she described that being able to see kids blossom and find their way and overcome challenges is such a gratifying experience. I could confidently say meeting with her confirms the many reasons I've considered a career as a school counselor and plan to apply to school counseling graduate school programs. Her job clearly has its demanding moments however I sensed that overall her satisfaction with her job was very high. She plays an important role to enriching the lives of many students and through that she finds much purpose in her job Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
