Conversation skills are a cross-cultural topic of great interest to me owing to their
significance in our progressively diverse global society. Effective communication across cultures
necessitates more than just language proficiency; it entails understanding cultural nuances,
expectations, and norms influencing communication styles. One’s ability to navigate these
differences sensitively and respectfully is necessary to build meaningful connections and foster
successful collaborations. I am particularly fascinated by how various cultural backgrounds
determine the perception and practice of active listening and how it could be adapted to
accommodate diverse communication inclinations (Ilie, 2019). While cross-cultural
communication could portent challenges, exploring and accepting these differences could open
up opportunities for individual growth, mutual learning, and strengthening relations across
cultural boundaries. By getting insights into the role of culture in conversation skills, I anticipate
improving my communication skills and promoting intercultural understanding in both personal
as well as professional contexts.
