Communicating a Team Vision
Slide 1: Addressing Communication Issues
Upon analyzing the case scenario, the best approach to address the communication issues
and concerns would include effectively implementing consistent meetings, developing effective
communication channels for essential updates, promoting open dialogue, and providing practical
training and development where necessary. Therefore, the first step towards this end would
involve conducting a needs or problem analysis where the existing communication issues would
be identified. For instance, some significant communication challenges include a lack of timely
and transparent updates and ineffective conveying of important information. The next step would
involve proposing a solution to the communication challenges. Therefore, some practical
solutions include regular meetings to promote effective communication, open communication
and engagement, and encouraging feedback and active listening from all the organization's
members.
Slide 2: Addressing Leadership Changes
Regarding addressing leadership changes, the best approach would involve identifying
the leadership concerns, fostering open communication channels, implementing a smooth and
effective transition, providing clear updates, and providing adequate resources and support to
ensure a successful transition to new leadership. Therefore, the first step towards this end would
involve identifying the respective leadership concerns, for instance, fear of leadership change
within the team. As the manager, I will ensure to encourage the team members to communicate
and share their ideas and suggestions regarding the transition phase to ensure smooth facilitation
of leadership change. Therefore, this would involve providing adequate resources to support the
new leader, promoting open communication between the new and existing leaders and teams,
and communicating clear expectations and duties for the team members during the transition
process. To address the fear of change and existing uncertainties among the team members, it is
essential to provide a clear plan and vision to promote confidence and provide opportunities
where a team member can communicate their issues and concerns.
Slide 3: Critical Communication Issue 1
The first significant communication challenge and issue facing the team members is
unknown or unscheduled meetings. For instance, the team members appear irritated because of
the short notice given for meetings. The team members are irritated because there is no clarity
about the meetings, and therefore, they feel bothered that the management leaves them in the
dark about important meetings. The challenge here is that no effectively scheduled meetings are
communicated in advance to the team members as a reminder for upcoming meetings. Therefore,
2
as the manager, I will ensure that meetings are scheduled in advance and that the meeting topic is
communicated to the team members in time.
Slide 4: Critical Communication Issue 2
The second communication challenge or issue within the team members involves
communication regarding layoffs. For instance, across the platform Stack, it is evident that the
team members are overly worried about the issue of layoffs. It is worth noting that
communicating layoffs without clarity can lead to rumors and significant challenges among the
team members and the company. Evidently, there are no concerns about layoffs in the current
books; therefore, such rumors ought to be shut down to ensure that the team members feel secure
about their employment status in the organization. Therefore, the organization must observe
honest communication and understanding because the company is a professional space that
demands respect and openness when engaging with team members, especially regarding issues
such as layoffs.
Slide 5: Critical Communication Issue 3
The third critical communication issue involves improper communication among the
team members. The team members use unprofessional language as they communicate,
particularly in the Slack thread. Therefore, as the manager, I will ensure that team members
communicate with one another professionally and with mutual respect, especially in the
workplace and the respective workplace platforms. For instance, in Slack, the use of words such
as bullshit is unprofessional and should not be used when communicating with one another on
workplace platforms. The best approach to address this challenge is setting up ground rules that
demonstrate and reinforce respect among the team members for effective teamwork and
engagement. Ground rules describe respective guidelines for taming certain behaviors, such as
the use of unprofessional language in the workplace. However, it is essential that every team
member ascent to the provided rules.
Slide 6: Tuckman Model for Group Development
Tuckman's model for development is one of the essential plans to consider for addressing
the challenges and issues facing the team members. The Tuckman model accounts that for
effective teamwork and development, teams must adhere to the five development stages:
forming, storming, norming, adjourning, and performing. Notably, these respective stages begin
during the group's initial meeting and should continue until the respective project or group
assignment ends. The Tuckman model requires team members to follow the five stages of team
development because it helps to promote efficiency in business operations and teamwork through
progressive team development
(Vaida et al., 2021)
. This helps to address and avoid common
challenges and issues team members face, such as poor communication and lack of
communication etiquette, as evidenced in the case scenario. Therefore, reviewing and effectively
3
analyzing the five stages is essential to developing team cohesion and morale, thus ensuring
successful performance among the team members.
Slide 7: Kotter’s Change Model
Kotter's change model provides that to ensure a successful transition to change, it is
essential that a majority of the management, about 75%, ought to ascent to the proposed change.
Kotter identifies eight primary stages of change, where the first step involves creating urgency
and is the most important. Therefore, as the manager, I will ensure I spend enough energy and
time developing a sense of urgency before addressing the other steps. The eight stages provided
by Kotter include creating urgency, developing a powerful coalition or team, developing a vision
for the proposed change, effectively communicating the vision, addressing and removing
challenges, developing short-term success, and developing the change. The last step involves
incorporating the selected changes in the company culture
(Laig & Abocejo, 2021)
. Kotter's
model for change is an effective action plan that identifies the respective steps to take toward
addressing the team's communication and leadership challenges. Therefore, implementing the
respective eight stages provided by Kotter will ensure effective change and development of the
teams.
Slide 8: Action Plan for Improving Communication
Several strategies would be implemented as the new manager to address the
communication challenges facing the team and the company in general. For instance, I will
promote and ensure the team uses the Slack platform for the team members because it promotes
open communication and honesty among the team members. Additionally, I will ensure to foster
an open and respectful working environment. Notably, it is evident that the team members
already feel there are no effective communication channels in the company to communicate
issues such as scheduled meetings
(Caine, 2020)
. Therefore, coming up with an effective
communication plan would help ensure that the needs of the team members are met and that any
concerns are effectively communicated. Additionally, I would like to provide informal and
formal opportunities for the team members to give honest feedback regarding the company's
operations. The other important strategy I would implement is being specific regarding projects
and tasks to ensure that all team members understand what is needed and how to carry out the
respective tasks to benefit the company and the team members.
Slide 9: Ethical Discourse
Ethical discourse describes moral statements or guidelines defining individuals' attitudes
and behavior. Therefore, in this case, some ethical discourse would include the following: The
first is compelling listening, which is essential because being heard promotes honesty, openness,
and the development of successful teams. Additionally, active listening helps to develop trust
between team members, motivating one another towards the team's success. The second ethical
discourse is implementing ethical communication in every aspect of the workplace
(Caine,
2020)
. Ethical communication is essential because failure to demonstrate ethical communication
negatively impacts the team. After all, it demonstrates disrespect among the team members and
affects the reliability and credibility of the team members. Additionally, I ensure that team

members communicate and demonstrate integrity because this reinforces successful performance
among the team
10: Ethical Discourse.
The other forms of ethical discourse I recommend and implement within the team and the
company, in general, include setting up training and education regarding practical
communication skills and engagement among the team members. Effective training on ethical
communication is essential because it helps to promote healthy and functional relationships
among the team members. The other ethical discourse I will implement among the team
members includes speaking non-judgmentally, where there will be no gossip or speaking
negatively about one another. This is important to reinforce respect and trust among the team
members
(Caine, 2020)
. As the manager, I also seek and encourage the importance of respecting
other people's boundaries. These ethical discourses are essential to ensure the team members
work together toward the organization's success and wellness.
Slide 11; Ethical Discourse
The other form of ethical discourse I would implement for the team includes developing
positive systems for the teams. Developing positive systems and networks for the team is
essential to ensure that every opinion from team members is heard and respected and that
unethical behaviors are addressed without reprisals. Therefore, I would provide an effective
system where team members can report unethical practices or conduct without fear of
contradiction. The other ethical discourse involves developing an official code of conduct or set
of rules that should be followed by every member of the team
(Caine, 2020)
. Notably, codes of
conduct outline the respective ethical behaviors the team would be expected to follow within the
organization. Any team member or employee who fails to adhere to the codes of conduct will
face disciplinary action or a warning based on the nature of the violation within the organization.
