The more description you provide, the easier it will be for your instructor to understand what your project is going to be and why it is important.) 1. Project Description: What is the actual project or product that you will be creating / producing? Now, describe this project in detail. Response: For my project I will be creating a Classroom Management Plan that can apply to both Resource and Multi-Categorical Self-Contained Special Education Classrooms. This plan will include classroom rules, classroom set up, a plan for both positive and negative reinforcement, a behavioral philosophy, and steps needed to apply the classroom management plan in other classrooms. The different moving pieces of a classroom behavior management plan can be difficult to put together. This plan will have all the different pieces needed to apply it in different classrooms that can apply to different students and their needs. 2. Rationale: State why you chose this project topic. How does this project fit into the broad area of education? How does it relate and/or benefit to your current work position or the job you are seeking? Response: Social/Emotional and behavioral skills are taught and learned skills that at times may need to be taught at school. Since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and ongoing, behaviors and classroom management have changed and there are different needs in the classrooms. When there are consistent procedures and behavior interventions in place, there is more time to access student academic strengths and weaknesses. A classroom management plan can help teachers create an encouraging and inclusive learning environment. This type of plan can help teachers effectively manage their classrooms, support students' learning, and promote positive social interactions, ultimately leading to better overall educational results for all students. EDUC 696 3. Statement of Purpose: State what you plan to accomplish with your project. Response: For this project, I plan to create a comprehensive Word document with headings and clear separations for each section. I plan to include all the resources needed for a special education teacher to effectively use the classroom management plan in their classroom. The document will include, classroom rules, classroom procedures for routine tasks, philosophy thoughts on classroom management, classroom mission statement, positive and negative consequence levels, a crisis plan for escalating behaviors, record keeping documentation, parent communication procedures, and physical classroom setup. 4. Research-Based: State what sorts of journal and/or article information you will use to complete this project (i.e., what will you look for? What connection does your project topic have to current issues? What current issues need to be addressed with your topic? What issues do you perceive you will research?). Response: To help research for this project, I will use the IRIS center through Vanderbilt University to assist in classroom management strategies and procedures. I will use peer-reviewed academic journals such as Behavioral Disorders, Theory into Practice, and the Council for Exceptional Children. I plan to access these academic journals through Liberty University Jerry Falwell Library online database. I plan to use educational texts to assist in the making of this project. I plan to locate effective strategies and plans to help incorporate into a comprehensive classroom management plan that teachers can implement in their classrooms and I can implement in my own classroom. 5. Projected Application: Explain how you plan to use your project once it is completed? Be specific on the audience(s) who will use it… Response: After the completion of this project, I plan to use the classroom management plan in my classroom to help with procedures and positive behavior supports. This system will assist in helping with consistency with my behavior management allowing more time for academic learning and support. Other special education teachers in my building can also use the program to allow for continuity within our department. The program will be used to help students feel safe and bring routine to their lives at school. This will help to provide clear expectations for teachers and students. This plan can also be used for procedures in preventing escalating behaviors as well as procedures for determining the function of a behavior. 6. Description of the projected outcomes: State what you think will happen as a result of completing this project. Keep it specific so that you can document whether or not it occurs. Response: The projected outcome for this Classroom Management Plan will assist in student’s basic and safety needs being met through structure and positive behavior supports. With the help of an explicit classroom management plan, procedures will become routine and I can spend more time assisting students with their learning. This plan will help me to build relationships with both my students and their parents to provide support in their strengths and weaknesses. To help collect data on the effectiveness of my classroom management implementation, I will use data charts, such as Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequent (ABC) charts to determine behavior trends and what to do to help students that may need behavior intervention. I will also allow my students to provide me with input and feedback about how to help the feel successful in their environment. Incident reports are required to be filled out after any time the crisis plan is used during an escalating situation with a student. Page 2 of 2
