Soil Report Recommendation Assignment: CDFA - FREP - California Fertilization Guidelines “Link” 1) Check out the CDFA-FREP Link. If you don’t have a specific crop already listed for the Soil Savvy Report, pick a crop of interest to you and review the nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium categories. Based on the results of your NPK tests from Soil Savvy, what might you have to add for your chosen crop to produce appropriately? You can also review Section 12 of the Lab Manual for Fertilizer types. Make sure with each response includes a quick reason why you are performing that specific application. *Nitrogen: (2 pts. Each) -Nitrogen Form (Liquid/Granular) – -Application Type (Broadcast/Sidedress/Banding/Foliar/Fertigation) – -Application Frequency (Time of year/Crop Growth Cycle) - *Phosphorus: (2 pts. Each) -Phosphorus Form (Liquid/Granular) – -Application Type (Broadcast/Sidedress/Banding/Foliar/Fertigation) – -Application Frequency (Time of year/Crop Growth Cycle) - *Potassium: (2 pts. Each) -Potassium Form (Liquid/Granular) – -Application Type (Broadcast/Sidedress/Banding/Foliar/Fertigation) – -Application Frequency (Time of year/Crop Growth Cycle) - 1
2) Based on the Soluble Salts Tests done in the class lab (Fizz Test/Slaking & Dispersion – Week 12), are your readings appropriate for this crop? There is a list of crops and their salinity tolerances on embedded Link provided (Crop/Plan Salt Tolerance Index). (5 pts.) 3) How about your pH reading from the Soil Savvy Report? Is it in the right range for your chosen crop? On Pg. 173 of the Lab Manual has a list of crops and their preferred pH ranges. If not in the correct range, what might you add? If it looks good for your crop, what type of maintenance program would you incorporate? (5 pts.) 4) How about your Organic Matter Test from the POM Lab Test from Week 13? You can also view the Slaking & Dispersion Test for assistance with this portion of the Recommendation. Do you feel an organic matter program should be implemented? How would you do it and what types organic matter additions would you include? (Cover Crop Rotations, Compost, Manure, etc…) (5 pts.) 5) From the Soil Savvy Report, do any of the Micronutrients appear to be low for this crop? If so, which ones and how might you apply these necessary nutrients? (5 pts.) 2
6) Picture of the Soil Savvy Report. You can include the Link below if you would like, or simply submit it through Canvas when you turn in this assignment. Thanks! (5 pts.) 7) Conclusions – Other parts to the Recommendation you would like to add (E/C – 10pts.) – Not Required to answer. Strictly extra credit points. 3
