For this discussion, think about the compound you described in Milestone One and post a description of a reaction it participates in. Which of the five different types of reactions would it be classified as? Refer to the Types of Chemical Reactions web resource and Types of Chemical Reactions video when making your decision. Include additional information in your post, such as a balanced equation of the reaction and heats of reaction, and also comment on whether the reaction is endothermic or exothermic. Refer to the Table of Standard Thermodynamic Properties of Selected Substances if needed. The compound I described in Milestone One is Silicon (Si). Under normal conditions silicon does not react with oxygen, but when silicon is heated above 900 °C it reacts with O 2 to form SiO 2 (Pilgaard, 2017). This reaction is endothermic in nature, absorbing the heat and creating a cooler surrounding. Silicon Dioxide is also known as silica is found naturally occurring in quartz. The balanced equation: Si (s) + O 2 (g) SiO 2 (s) Z This reaction would be classified as direct combination or a synthesis reaction. Silicon and Oxygen combine to make the more complex product of Silicon Dioxide.
