HCM 325 Module Four Assignment Worksheet
In this assignment, you will explore your selected service’s position in the market in relation to two of its competitors. This assignment will assist you in completing the Market Analysis section of your strategic marketing proposal, which you will draft for Milestone Two.
Complete this worksheet by replacing text in brackets. Do not alter the worksheet or submit the assignment in the form of an essay. For this and all worksheets, you are not required to include a cover page.
The Module Four Assignment Rubric will be used to assess the following critical elements
:
State the organization and the service you selected for the final project
.
NYU Langone Perlmutter Cancer Center
Competitor 1 1.
Identify the competitor.
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
2.
Provide a brief description of the organization
.
“Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK)—the world's oldest and largest private cancer center—has devoted more than 130 years to exceptional patient care, innovative research, and outstanding educational programs.” (American Charities)
3.
Describe the competitor’s service
:
Memorial Sloan Kettering provides cancer treatment to adults and children. They also provide counsel and support, fun activities for cancer patients, nutrition services, and support services for pediatric patients, etc.
4.
Outline three strengths and weaknesses
for the competitor’s service:
Strengths
Weaknesses
1. Is ranked #2 in cancer hospitals 1. Internal allegations of ethical lapses 2. Attract a large customer base
2. Reports of operating loss
3. Research and development
3. Some marketing failures
5.
Point(s) of difference
: Based on your analysis of the competitor service’s strengths and weaknesses, describe the unique aspects of the service that differentiate it from similar services in the market.
[Insert text.] Competitor 2 1.
Identify the competitor.
Montefiore Medical Center
2.
Provide a brief description of the organization
.
Provide coordinated, comprehensive care to patients and their families across the Bronx, Westchester, and the Hudson Valley (Montefiore Medical Center)
3.
Describe the competitor’s service
:
This organization provides general medicine services and some specialty treatments for cancer patients. It is focused on early cancer diagnosis and treats over 200 cancers and over 300 clinical trials.
4.
Outline three strengths and weaknesses
for the competitor’s service:
Strengths
Weaknesses
1. Increase scope of medical services
1. Financial weakness
2. Attract large customer base 2. Restricted patient protection
3. Research and development
3. Brand is unclear and confusing
5.
Point(s) of difference
: Based on your analysis of the competitor service’s strengths and weaknesses, describe the unique aspects of the service that differentiate it from similar services in the market.
Based on the analysis Memorial Sloan Kettering offers better services and is ranked higher than Montefiore and NYU
Langone. However, NYU Langone has a strong financial support system because it does not rely on the government for funding. Based on these organizational weaknesses, Montefiore should work on improving very important patient protection and Memorial can recover from losses. However, they must address the issues with their high-ups
having relations with drug companies. Role of Healthcare Consumer
Assume the role of a healthcare consumer
in need of the type of service selected. Select a service from a healthcare
consumer perspective and explain why this competitor’s service was chosen. Use specific examples from the research on the service to support your response.
As a consumer, I would choose Memorial Sloan Kettering based on its ranking and the services it provides. The extensive support and counseling provided to patients in every area of care would be great for me as a consumer because I would want to be treated in a place that not only focuses on treating with drugs but somewhere that supports my mental well-being and also guides into eating the right foods that will aide in my treatment process to gain a better outcome.

Two days ago, your supervisor, Ms. Walters, asked you to make travel plans for her to attend a conference today. She was planning to give a presentation for a coworker who had to cancel the trip due to illness. You made the reservations and allowed two hours for Ms. Walters to get from the airport to the meeting. This seemed to be ample time, since the airport is only 20 minutes from the meeting site. Ms. Walters was very busy making last-minute preparations for the presentation and did not pay much attention to the flight itinerary. This afternoon, Ms. Walters called you. She was very upset because she barely made it to the meeting on time. It seems you forgot to take time zone differences into account when making the travel plans. What will you say to Ms. Walters? How can you repair the damage this situation has done to your working relationship?

Sky anticipates that each new skateboard will require $10 in materials (after initial purchase) and require two hours of her time. For custom designs, she is budgeting an extra 30 minutes for communicating with her customer. For the time being, Sky will continue selling out of her parents' garage as it keep costs low. She is planning on relying on word-of-mouth marketing and perhaps some newsletters too. Sky's friend, Libby, says she can design and print unique newsletters on a monthly basis for $300 per month. Sky plans to distribute the newsletters herself to save money. Sky likes the idea of advertising more, but is wondering if she should only do the newsletters every other month. She is projecting 200 skateboard sales, of which 25% are custom-design. By advertising each month, there will be a 10% boost to these numbers.

New Time Videos (NTV) is a new online video rental service. In the field, it is trying to compete by offering its customers access to all of

Exercise 4
The Fly-Right Airplanc Company builds small jet planes to scll to corporations for the use of the exccutives.
To meet the needs of these exccutives, the company's customers sometimes order a custom design of the air
planes being purchased. When this occurs, a substantial start up cost is incurred to intiate production of these
airplanes.
Fly-Right has recently reccived purchase requests from three customers with short deadlines. However, as
the company's production facilities already are almost completely tied up filling previous orders, it will not
be able to accept all three orders. Therefore a decision now needs to be made on the number of airplancs the
company will agree to produce (if any) for cach of the three customers.
The table below gives the relevant information on cach of the three customers. Each customer has a fixed
start-up cost, paid just once irrespective of how many plancs are produced for that customer. The marginal
net revenue is received per plane…
