PERSONALITY STYLES 1 PERSONALITY STYLES Abdul Waseah Mohammed PJM 6210 – Communication Skills for Project Managers January ,2024. Northeastern University
PERSONALITY STYLES 2 INTRODUCTION “A DISC personality test is a type of personality exam that can help people better understand their personality style. DISC test has no right or wrong answers and should be answered as honestly as possible for the most accurate results.” (Evangelisti, 2023) The four different factors of DISC are: Drive Influence Support Clarity Based on the Truity test results we will determine what our personality style, flexibility regarding the style, secondary style, surprising result of the styles, changing behaviour, and interaction with other styles. This study will help us improve our abilities and helps us recognize our strengths and weaknesses. DISC PERSONALITY RESULT
PERSONALITY STYLES 3 1) What is your own personality style? My personality style as per the test is Support and this is because from the beginning, I have a habit of helping others and guiding them in situations that they have thrown oneself into. I always believe in teamwork; this makes tasks understandable, builds self confidence and network as well. As Vinney (2024) said that supportive people are such skilled communicators at work, they bring out the positive aspects of challenging circumstances. They enjoy interacting with people and are very welcoming. While influencing I would assist them and work with them to achieve goals together. 2) How flexible are you with regard to your style? Some people are naturally more flexible and open to adjust their approach, while others may be more set in their ways and stubborn depending on the situation. However, if considering myself during situations like this I would stay supportive and influence them to achieve tasks as well but will also Drive through situations by taking actions and strict decisions if there is no progress at all. I believe that being stubborn and strict to your aim without proper guidance to your team will not lead you ahead, instead stay supportive but when required push the team even if it means taking actions to complete tasks on time. 3) How does the concept of secondary style apply to you, based on your test result? The secondary style I have according to DISC is Influence . An influential person is someone who helps his team recognize their potential and guides them to use their ability to contribute for the betterment of an organization. They build their trust amongst their peers and help them develop performance. They build mutual understanding between each person by communicating and understanding their situations. Influential people always tend to lead ahead and are ready to take the risks associated with them, gaining confidence, and building motivation for people around them. Because of their natural communication skills, they are frequently able to talk themselves out of any tricky position brought on by their lack of humility.

PERSONALITY STYLES 4 4) What surprised you about the result? The style that surprised me the most is Clarity. Since I always have a habit of doing my tasks accurately and working according to the rules and regulations, making sure that everything is done according to the plan. Being precisive helps you avoid mistakes and doubts while executing in turn providing you with desired outcomes. As per my field of work every task needs to be formulated in order to avoid communication gaps or undesired response. Although, this approach may also lead people to take shortcuts to reach their goals because they are stuck to their timeline and do not want themselves to lag behind and receive negative reviews. This does not affect my style, but I feel that this could have been better. 5) What might you change about your default behaviour? If considering changing behaviour I would improve my drive style because being supportive and influential will not help you lead if one cannot take actions and indulge in the tasks. Drive style is required if you are a project manager because responsibility for the planning, execution and closure phases schedules need to be initiated at their time frames. Taking the right decisions will help you better manage stakeholders, leading to successful deliverables and understanding of the project. 6) How do you interact with the other personality types described? Managers may find it difficult to facilitate effective communication with people who have different communication styles than themselves if they have a DISC personality. They can create effective communication exercises to improve each member's communication abilities by having a thorough understanding of the various DISC styles (Horsfall, n.d.). If approached to a Drive personality I will help them understand the importance of teamwork and to consider the opinions and comfort of each member. As for the Clarity style I would recommend them to provide flexibility and understand the capabilities of team as well as stakeholders, if required move out of boundaries to learn better systems and procedures for the betterment of the organization.
