1 MUSEUM VISIT TO MBA Museum assignment: 15% This assignment serves the foundational knowledge and integration learning objectives. You will go on your own time to the Museum of Fine Arts, Muse des Beaux Arts (MBA) https://www.mbam.qc.ca/en/exhibitions/indigenous-colombia/ to visit the exhibition. Exceptionally this assignment can be done in groups of two , you will hand in one assignment and share the grade equally. The same assignment will be dropped in both drop boxes and you will receive same feedback . THOUGHT AND SPLENDOR OF INDIGENOUS COLUMBIA. The time to visit is estimated to 1h15-1h45 minutes. It is open only until October 1rst so you must go before otherwise you will not be able to complete this assignment . (2000). “Ayukpachi: Empowering Aboriginal Thought” in Marie Battiste, (ed.), Reclaiming Indigenous Voice and Vision . University of Vancouver Press. pp. 259-62 (Aboriginal worldviews). https://mcgill.on.worldcat.org/oclc/43282269 Include a separate page for references in APA, including all quoted material from the exhibit. Introduction: 250-350 words. - Present the exhibit in a general way – what is it about, what objects are presented, how is Columbian Indigenous thought presented ? Give a general overview, with some detail but not too much. Main Body: 250-350 words. Choose one room (there are many rooms with themes, like musical instruments and gold ornaments) to focus your assignment on. 1. What is the main explanation panel for this room say, what element of an Indigenous Columbian worldview/philosophy does it present ? 2. What are the sources of knowledge that are presented? (Use DIRECT quotes from panel and ALSO YOUR OWN WORDS TO EXPLAIN THIS.) 3. How do the objects in the room embody these ideas ? 4. Choose one object that you think most captures the Columbian Indigenous
2 worldview and explain why you chose it (ADD A CLEARLY LABELED PICTURE OF OBJECT). Conclusion: 350 words. - Using the readings on Indigenous knowledge and worldview from Youngblood Henderson or from Castellano article discuss how the Indigenous thought of Ancient Columbian was presented – do you think it was an HONEST AND ACURATE depiction of an “Aboriginal worldview”? - To answer this: Define the concept of Indigenous worldview and/or knowledge in your own words, referring to the texts. - The text should not include long/bloc quotations and then discuss the exhibit. Grading rubric: 15 Intro: max 5 points - 5 points will be awarded for gathering the necessary information to discuss the exhibit in a general manner, written in a concise manner, summarizing all points accurately. - 2.5 point will be awarded for an incomplete presentation/discussion of the exhibit, (too long or too short). - 0 points will be awarded for an inaccurate depiction that demonstrates misunderstanding of the intent of the exhibit. Main Body: 5 points. - 5 points will be awarded for completing all the elements (3 points) in an accurate manner, using proper language, punctuation, proper flow of sentence, for including pictures of chosen object and discussing in your own words, in a clear and articulate manner how the room, the piece captures/embodies the Indigenous worldview presented. - 2.5 points will be awarded for completing all the elements but with some inaccuracies and/or misunderstandings, but using proper language, punctuation, proper flow of sentence, for including pictures of chosen object and discussing in your own words how the room and the piece captures the Indigenous worldview presented. - 1 point will be awarded for not completing all the elements (3), and with some inaccuracies and/or misunderstandings, in a language that is not clear and/or articulate and that has some grammar and syntax problems. - 0 point will be awarded to an inaccurate depiction, lack of elements, that demonstrates a misunderstanding of the exhibit and/or of the instructions of the assignment. Conclusion: max 5 points - 5 points will be awarded for an accurate definition in your own words with proper references that demonstrates a sound understanding of an Indigenous worldview put in relation with this exhibit (quotes and references included). - 2.5 points will be awarded to a definition that lacks accuracy and/or that demonstrates incomplete understanding of the concept or of how it relates to the exhibit and/or that is insufficiently explained in your own words or has no references at all to the reading.
3 - 0 point will be awarded to an inaccurate definition that demonstrates a misunderstanding of the concept and of how it relates to the exhibit and/or that fails to any reference to sources or that is not explained in your own words.
