BUSS100 – Business Principles Week 2 Ethical Scenarios Assignment Laura Christ Scenario#1 The corporate social responsibility for this security issue is the customers finances and security with their personal information. In this scenario, Dell Corporation was responsible for many customers’ secure information. The course of action I would take would be to contact the appropriate people about the fraudulent charges and who conducted said charges. I would then send out a notification via mail or email depending on what is available to ensure the customers that the situation has been taken care of and that we would be taking care of the fraudulent 10 dollars. Come challenges I would face in my decision would be that I would be turning someone in who is family. With the decision I would have gone with, I’m sure the spouse’s sibling, along with other family members, would have been upset with me for turning in that family member, but I have business with many customers that I must keep safe from instances like this. Scenario#2 In this scenario, I would immediately log the instructor off and send them an email stating everything that just happened. I would not help myself to the key for the final exam. I would just work extra hard on making sure I was prepared for the final exam without cheating. If I still did not pass, then I would take the class over again, even if that means paying for it a second time. In this scenario, I really would not have any challenges to face because if I were to cheat and use the key to the final exam just to ensure that I pass, I’m just cheating myself out of truly earning my degree. Cheating, especially as a student, will get you kicked out of the school. You’re going to school to pay for the education to get a job in the career you want. By cheating, you will just be cheating yourself out of the future you want. Scenario#3 While this is not illegal, the ethics code within the company are set in place to avoid unlawful behavior and to avoid potential legal punishments from scenarios like this. Based solely on the policy, I should not accept the gifts. Basing off the fact that others in the past have accepted gifts, I believe it is balanced. Due to the other employees accepting those gifts, I feel that the clients or salesmen might feel a certain way towards that, and it could affect the business.
For me, this situation would be awkward. I personally know that you should not be accepting gifts from customers, clients or salesmen. The fact that ‘The Jones Clothing Company’ dropped the new TV and DVD player off at my personal home address would make that situation extremely uncomfortable to me. I would immediately report this situation to my direct manager or supervisor.
