To greet others, you should use San (Vulture, 2022). II. Whenever you do business with Japan, be prepared, and know what you are going to talk about, so you don't stumble. In the event of a stumble, Japan may decide to renege on its decision. III. There is a Japanese tradition that states that yawning in public is impolite, so it would be best if you would take a deep breath before meeting them so that you don't get caught yawning in the middle of their conversation. Part Two: Hofstede Model of National Culture For each of the six cultural dimensions in Hofstede’s model of national culture, list the score for both countries and then draw conclusions based on the differences in scores between the two countries. To find the scores, use this tool: Hofstede Insights: Compare Countries . When you select both countries, the tool will give you the scores. You should also select the option to read more about your selected countries to learn about the implications of those scores. Cultural Dimension United States Country Selected for Course Project Power Distance Index (PDI) 40 52 Individualism Versus Collectivism (IDV) 60 62 Masculinity Versus Femininity (MAS) 62 95 Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI) 46 92 Long-Term Orientation Versus Short- Term Normative Orientation (LTO) 50 100
Indulgence Versus Restraint (IVR) 68 42 Part Three: Conclusions Draw conclusions on how doing business in the country you selected will differ from doing business in the United States Identify any significant differences in scores between the two countries. i. Long-Term Orientation Versus Short-Term Normative Orientation (LTO)- United States has a score of 26 and Japan has a score of 88. That is a 62-point difference. Draw conclusions on the significance of the large differences in scores. ii. Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI)- United States has a score of 46 and Japan has a score of 92. That is a 46-point difference. iii. individualism Versus Collectivism (IDV)-United States has a score of 91 and Japan has a score of 46. That is a 45-point difference. iv. Masculinity Versus Femininity (MAS)- United States has a score of 62 whereas Japan has a score of 95. That is a 33- point difference. v. Indulgence Versus Restraint (IVR)- United States has a score of 68 and Japan has a score of 42. That is a 26-point difference. vi. Power Distance Index (PDI)- United States has a score of 40 and Japan has a score of 54. That is a 14-point Difference. Draw conclusions on the significance of the large differences in scores. i. The top three scores with the loftiest difference are LTO, UAI and IDV. LTO has a 62- point difference with Japan having an advanced score, UAI has a 46- point difference with Japan having an advanced score, and IDV has a 45- point difference with the United States having the advanced score. With Long- Term Orientation Versus Short- Term Normative exposure (LTO) since Japan has an advanced score this shows that Japan values a long- term investment further than a short- term investment, whereas the United States values short- term investments further than long- term investments. As a result of daily profit and loss statements issued by the United States, Japan's precedence is steady request share growth rather than daily gains (Hofstede perceptivity, 2021). This shows that Japan invests in long- term investments rather than short- term bones. It's recommended that when dealing with Japan, you act modestly and don't talk too important about yourself” (Mind Tools Content Team, n.d.). query Avoidance Index (UAI) Japan has an advanced score which shows they now know what may be. States has an advanced score than Japan, meaning Americans are more concerned about their own conduct than other conduct, and do not calculate on a group opinion, whereas Japan works in a group. So, to do business with Japan it may be good for the United States to have a platoon to vend the investment. When working with a country with a lower IDV it's important to know many tips similar as" avoid giving any negative feedback in public, suppress feelings that may jeopardize harmony, and know how important wisdom is. Go by there knowing what you're talking about” (Mind Tools Content Team, n.d.) List conclusions on the differences in doing business between your two countries based on cultural dimension scores. Comparing Japan and the United States based on their cultural dimensions, I found that the United States scored higher in IDV (Individualism Versus Collectivism) and IVR (Indulgence Versus Restraint). Accordingly, the United States enjoy short-term investments, indulge themselves, and value their own opinions. LTO (Long-Term Orientation Versus Short-Term Normative Orientation), UAI (Uncertainty Avoidance Index) and MAS (Masculinity Versus Femininity) score extremely high in Japan. They value long-term investments, they have strong egos, and take pride in being prepared to present by knowing all the information beforehand and having several meetings. This means that Japan enjoys working in a group environment.
