The Hundreds Organizational structures play a big role in shaping the success of retail organizations, especially in the highly competitive streetwear market. This analysis will dive into the importance of organizational structures in the streetwear retail industry and their practical applications. To illustrate this, we will compare the organizational structure of two big streetwear retail organizations: Supreme and The Hundreds. Supreme is well known streetwear brand known for its limited edition drops and collaborations with many public figures. Key features of Supreme is that they are founder centric, the structure of the brand revolves around its founder, James Jebbia, he holds significant control over the brand’s creative direction and decision-making. They take a minimalist approach to the market, Supreme keeps its workforce lean, focusing on a small team of designers, marketers, and retail staff. Although they are a very large brand, with lots of popularity, they don’t have many store locations. Lastly another key feature is the collaborative partnerships, supreme collaborates with artists, designers, and brands, extending its reach past traditional retail. The Hundrends is another streetwear brand known for its graphic heavy designs and community engagement. Its organizational structure differs significantly from Supreme. Key features for The Hundreds are the diversified product line, unlike Supreme, The Hundreds offers a broader range of products, including clothing, accessories, and lifestyle items. Recently though Supreme has started to launch more accessories and lifestyle items. The Hundreds operates and more stores than Supreme, which caters to a wider audience. The brand actively engages with its community through events, blogs, and
Gokhale 2 social media. Also, just like Supreme they also have a great collaborative culture, involving various team members in creative and decision-making processes. Supreme's structure is characterized by a founder-centric and exclusive approach, while The Hundreds adopts a more collaborative and inclusive model. The key differences lie in decision-making processes, product diversification, and community engagement. Supreme's exclusivity and limited control may limit its adaptability in a rapidly changing market. Challenges in the retail industry are rapid market changes, the streetwear industry experiences rapid shifts in consumer preferences and trends. The competition is intense competition from other streetwear brands and fast fashion retailers. Consumer Expectations increasing demand for sustainability, diversity, and ethical practices. Supreme's centralized structure may hinder its ability to adapt quickly to changing trends and consumer expectations. The Hundreds collaborative approach aligns better with addressing industry challenges by fostering innovation and community engagement. Recommendations for Supreme is to diversify leadership, empower a diverse team to share creative and strategic responsibilities. Expanding their product line, they should try and explore opportunities to broaden product offerings to appeal to a wider audience. They should enhance community engagement, investing in building stronger connections with the streetwear community through events and digital platforms. At the beginning of the brand, it seemed promising that they would continue to show the community more love, but things became repetitive. In conclusion, organizational structures are pivotal in determining a streetwear retail organization's ability to navigate industry challenges and seize opportunities. The example of Supreme and The Hundreds demonstrate that a more flexible, inclusive, and community oriented structure can be advantageous in the evolving streetwear market. Adapting organizational structures to meet the demands of the market is essential for long-term success in the industry.
