Record your responses to all questions on this document (the boxes will expand should you require more space). What are the clubs, learning communities or professional organizations specific to your program? How likely are you to join one of these organizations? Which one interests you the most, why? (minimum 100 words) There are many clubs that are associated with the College of Business Administration. Some of the programs are IDEA, DECA, Accounting society, Delta Mu Delta, Colangelo Scholars, and GCU Sports Business Club. It is highly likely that I will join some of the business clubs. The business club that interests me the most is DECA. DECA helps students to network with other business professionals and develop skills in areas such as marketing and finance. I feel that DECA will be most beneficial to me because it will allow me to meet Business professionals in the marketing field while attending workshops and conferences and allow me the opportunity to work in my field, while participating in planned activities during the club events. Set and share a goal for how you will become involved in a learning community, club, or organization. Discuss how involvement in these types of groups could positively affect you as a student? (minimum 100 words) I will go to the business department and get the contact information for the DECA club. Then, I will contact the DECA club and ask for information on how to join. Next, I will join DECA by filling out the membership application online. The group will positively affect me as a student because I will develop skills that will help me in the Business Marketing and Advertisement and Finance world, as well as in my future endeavors as a Business owner. DECA has organized ad campaigns, Business to Business Marketing, and Marketing management. These organized activities will give me hands-on skills and the opportunity to apply the information that I learn in the classroom to real life situations. As a result, the hands-on experience will make me a more well rounded student. What do you need to achieve academically to be successful in the future? Are there any GPA requirements, Academically I would need to achieve a 3.0 or above GPA to be successful in the future. I would like graduate school to be a possibility and most require at least a 3.0 GPA. In addition, there is a business department honors organization on campus that I would like to join called Delta Mu Delta. However, in order to be a member of
volunteer hours, or internships associated with your future career goals? (minimum 100 words) Delta Mu Delta, I must have a 3.6 GPA. I want to join this organization because it will help my future career. They connect members with internships associated with Marketing and other business degrees. programs. It is important for me to do an internship before graduating because I can gain the experience that I can put on my resume, also many times people get hired on by the company that they intern with. Review the University Snapshot page on the GCU website to locate and explain GCU's Mission and Vision, Five Mission Competencies, and GCU’s Christian Identity and Mission. (Minimum 100 words total) GCU Mission and Vision: GCU's Mission and Vision is to provide a christian based education that academically challenged students minds in order to make them well rounded citizens globally. In addition, GCU want to prepare their students by giving the necessary skills to succeed in their future careers, such as, critical thinking skills, communication skills, and leadership skills. 5 Mission Competencies: The five competencies skills that GCU desires for their students to acquire are a Christian worldview, global citizenship, effective communicator, critical thinker, and a responsible leader. The university wants students to have a christian worldview, and that means staying true to the University's christian heritage. In addition, the University would like students to be critical thinkers and continue to ask important questions that change the world. Lastly, the University desires for students to be responsible leaders, and have an understanding that the decisions that they make have consequences. GCU’s Christian Identity and Mission (One Foundation) GCU christian identity and mission is built on the foundation on christian values and the commitment to God. The GCU Academic Catalog lists the university's General Education (GE) Competencies. Note: While the General Education Competencies support the GCU Mission competencies, they are not the same competencies. (The GE Competencies are listed in the box to the right.) Review Ch. 2 of the University Foundations: The University service course meets the University foundation requirement. This course teaches students how to effectively use the university resources to achieve their academic goals. Effective Communication: The communication course requirement at GCU teaches students to have intellectual interaction with others while still making a positive emotional impact. Christian Worldview: The Christian worldview course develops a faith based foundation to develop christian values in students. In addition it allows students to examine their faith from a christian worldview.
