Google prevails as one of the most reputable organizations with a vast customer base in over one hundred countries globally (Wirtz and Wirtz, 2021). As such, applying the SWOT framework helps contextualize the internal and external factors affecting its success. Internal Factors Strengths Weaknesses External Factors Opportunities Threats Management Google has strong and visionary leadership under Alphabet Inc., Google's parent company, as well as a culture of innovation and adaptability, allowing quick response to market changes (Wirtz and Wirtz, 2021). Google has a complex corporate structure under Alphabet Inc., triggering potential management challenges. Also, viable regulatory scrutiny and antitrust issues may affect decision- making. Economic Google has the potential to grow in emerging markets, particularly in Asia and Africa, or expand into new industries and markets, like healthcare and finance ( Pro, 2023). Economic downturns and currency fluctuations in international markets can reduce advertising budgets, affecting Google's core revenue sources. Marketing Google is a recognizable brand globally, synonymous with internet search. Moreover, it exploits efficient digital marketing strategies and an extensive online presence. It has a limited diversification in marketing strategies compared to competitors, while dependence on advertising revenue makes Google susceptible to market fluctuations ( Gupta et al., 2021). Competition Google can diversify into other markets, like autonomous vehicles or smart cities, through strategic partnerships and acquisitions to boost its competitive advantage. Google faces intense competition from companies like Facebook, Amazon, Apple, and new disruptive players in pertinent markets ( Federlova et al., 2023). Legal/ Regulatory Google can collaborate with regulators to address privacy concerns and antitrust issues while ensuring compliance with evolving data protection regulations, like GDPR and CCPA (Wirtz and Wirtz, 2021). Notably, ongoing antitrust investigations and lawsuits may lead to fines or operational constraints. Similarly, stringent data privacy regulations could impact ad targeting capabilities ( Gupta et al., 2021). Offerings Google has a diverse product portfolio, including Search, Android O.S., Google Workspace, YouTube, and Google Cloud ( Pro, 2023). Privacy concerns and data security issues could lead to loss of user trust. Industry/ Market Structure The shift towards remote work and digital transformation presents opportunities for Google Cloud and Google Workspace, coupled with expansion into e- commerce and online advertising innovations. Increasing consolidation in the cloud computing industry may lower Google Cloud's market share. For instance, the evolving media landscape with streaming services may challenge YouTube's dominance.
