Professional Writing (DSRT-837-A01) - First Bi-term Reflecting on my experience in the Professional Writing course, I can confidently say that this course has been an invaluable addition to my academic curriculum (Creswell & Creswell, 2017). Throughout the course, we were given various opportunities to apply the knowledge and theory learned in class to real- world scenarios. This enhanced our understanding of the subject and provided us with practical skills that can be applied in our current workplace or future employment. One of the main ways we could apply our knowledge was through the assignments given to us. These assignments challenged us to think critically and use the theories we learned in class to solve real-world problems. For example, one of our assignments required us to write a proposal for a potential client, which involved conducting extensive research and using persuasive writing techniques (Creswell & Creswell, 2017). This helped us improve our writing skills and gave us a taste of what it would be like to write proposals in a professional setting. In addition to the assignments, the course also included guest speakers from various industries who shared their experiences and provided valuable insights into the world of professional writing (Creswell & Creswell, 2017). This allowed us to see the practical applications of the theories we learned in class and how they are
used in marketing, public relations, and technical writing. It also allowed us to network with professionals in the field and better understand the industry. One of the most important skills I have gained from this course is writing effectively for different purposes and audiences. Through the assignments and class discussions, we learned about the importance of tailoring our writing to suit the needs and expectations of our target audience (Creswell & Creswell, 2017). This skill is highly relevant in any workplace, as effective written communication is essential for success in any role. Moreover, the incorporation of real-world experience in academic curriculum has numerous benefits. Firstly, it gives students a deeper understanding and appreciation of the subject matter (Creswell & Creswell, 2017). By applying theory to real-world scenarios, we could see the relevance and practicality of what we learned in class. This makes the learning experience more engaging and meaningful and helps us retain the knowledge better. Furthermore, incorporating real-world experience helps students develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication. Employers highly value these skills, which are necessary for career success (Creswell & Creswell, 2017). By having the opportunity to apply theory to real- world situations, students are better equipped to handle challenges and contribute effectively in the workplace.
Healthcare Marketing (BADM-663-M20) - Full Term Throughout this semester, I have enrolled in Healthcare Marketing (BADM- 663-M20), providing me with valuable knowledge and theory in the healthcare industry (Berkowitz, 2021). Reflecting on the course, I realized the importance of incorporating real-world experience into our academic curriculum. One of the significant benefits of incorporating real-world experience into an academic program is the ability to apply knowledge and theory gained in the course to our current workplace or future employment. This course has thoroughly taught me about marketing principles, specifically healthcare. Through various case studies and projects, I have learned the importance of understanding target audiences, creating effective marketing campaigns, and analyzing market trends. This knowledge has not only been applicable to healthcare marketing but can also be utilized in various industries and job positions (Berkowitz, 2021). I have been able to directly apply what I have learned in this course to my internship in a healthcare organization, and I have seen its positive impact on my work. In addition to practical application, this course has also helped me demonstrate the application of theory to the workplace in written form. Through assignments such as research papers and marketing plans, I have effectively utilized the theories and concepts learned in class to analyze and provide solutions to real-world challenges (Berkowitz, 2021).
