Chapter 1 Assignment: An Introduction to the Human body October 29, 2023 Zaynobia Burton Professor Christian Segura Describe the structure of the body, from simplest to most complex, in terms of the six levels of organization. According to our textbook, it starts with cells which are the smallest living organism. Tissue is a group of many cells that look alike that work together to perform a certain function. Now it starts to get bigger with an Organ which is a structure of the body composed of two or more tissues. The Organ system is a group of organs that work together to perform major functions. Like the heart. Lungs. Kidneys. Organism is a living being. Which would be us, humas. We are an organism. Compare and contrast at least four medical imagining techniques in terms of their function and use in medicine? We all have used an X-ray before, that is one medical imagining technique. An X-Ray is a machine that a patient lays on, like a bed. You get this gray heavy shield placed on the area that is going to be X-Rayed. To avoid a lot of exposure to cancer, by the radiation. A Computed Tomography CT scan in non-invasive. The CAT scanner rotates 360 degrees while a patient lays on a bed like structure. Where only their head is in this circle object. The computer they use gives a two-dimensional view of the scanned area. CAT scan is used for soft tissue scanning like the brain and the abdomen. In the textbook it said the level of detail is so precise that the doctors can measure the size of a mass down to a millimeter. The disadvantage of a CT scan is that it exposes patients to radiation many times higher than an x-ray. If children went under a Ct scan the risk for them would be higher than an adult. An MRI which I have done before to see why I am getting these migraines. They say that MRI imaging is more precise than any other technique, so it beats the CT scans. MRI also does not expose patients to radiation. The patient lays in this tube-like structure. You are all the way in, unlike the CT scan where it is just your head. I say you lay there for about 30 minutes. If you do not like closed spaces this may not be for you. The machine is very loud, even with the headphones they provide for you. When I went, they played music, I still heard the noise of the machines. But I still rather the MRI machines because of the less
radiation. The ultrasonography imagine technique, which I believe most of us have an ultrasound before. I just got one recently on my neck. It is an imaging technique that uses high frequency sound waves into the body to generate an echo signal that is sent to a computer so they can see the Image on anatomy in real time. Ultrasonography studies the heart function, the blood flow in the neck, certain conditions like gallbladder disease, and a baby growing inside of a woman's body. Name the 4 quadrants and 9 body regions of the human body? Why is it important to know these quadrants and regions? Know the structural breakdown before you answer this question. The 9 body regions of the human body are, right hypochondriac, left hypochondriac, epigastric, right lumbar, left lumbar, umbilical, right iliac, left iliac, hypogastric. The 4 quadrants are the right upper quadrant, left upper quadrant, right lower quadrant, left lower quadrant. Define the following terms: gross anatomy The study of anatomy at a visible or macroscopic level. microscopic anatomy The study of structures that can be observed only with a microscope. macroscopic anatomy Macro means large, like the brain. Or gross anatomy, examination of a animal's body parts using unaided eyesight. regional anatomy The study of the interrelationships of all the structures in a specific body region, the abdomen. Muscles, nerves, blood vessels. systemic anatomy The study of the structure that makes up a discrete body system. Group of structures that work together to perform a unique body function. Physiology It is about function. The scientific study of the chemistry and physics of the structures of the body and ways in which they work together to support the function of life.
