Review Figure 1.1 on Page 1. - Define standard anatomical position ___________________________________________________________________ Review the directional terms in Figure 1.2. Be sure to pay attention to the direction of the arrows. Note: Proximal and distal can sometimes be difficult to apply. Generally, for our purposes, these terms apply to limbs but can apply to other structures like blood vessels. Keep in mind that the reference point should be where the appendage (limb) originates from the trunk of the body. For example, since the elbow is closer to where the arm originates from the trunk of the body, it is proximal to the wrist. The wrist is farther away from the origin.
