CHS 3501L DNA/RMP Procedure Objective: To use a DNA profile to calculate and understand Random Match Probability. Materials: - Scientific calculator Procedure: 1. Include the following table in your lab report for the Crime Scene Profile on page 3. Using the electropherogram for the Crime Scene profile, fill in the alleles found at each locus. Two examples have been done for you at the D3 and D8 loci. 2. Using the allele frequency chart provided on page 6, fill in the allele frequencies for both alleles at each locus. Two examples have been provided. 3. To fill in the last column, you must use the formulas provided in the PowerPoint for either a homozygote or heterozygote. An example of each has also been provided. NOTE: You will only need one chart in your report. The extra charts just serve as an example of how to complete each column of the chart.
CHS 3501L DNA/RMP Procedure 4. Calculate the Random Match Probability for the Crime Scene Profile using the following equation. Show your work. Use scientific notation for the result. Show your work . RMP = (frequency of locus 1) x (frequency of locus 2) x (frequency of locus 3) x (frequency of locus N) … 5. Calculate the Likelihood Ratio (LR) for the Crime Scene Profile. Use the equatio n from the PowerPoint. Use scientific notation for the result. Show your work. 6. You were also given DNA profiles for Suspect A and Suspect B. Record the alleles found at each locus for each of the three profiles. The first line has been done for you. Hint: remember that a person that is truly heterozygous will have both alleles at equal heights or intensities.
