Name: Cycle 3 Remediation Assignment This assignment is required, and not completing it will count against your grade. It is also an opportunity to improve your overall grade by demonstrating that you understand the benchmarks we covered. Remediation is REQUIRED for EVERY benchmark that you did NOT demonstrate 70% or better on the Cyle 1 Assessment in Performance Matters. If you have already demonstrated mastery by doing well on the test and in your lab work (MEANING YOU ALREADY HAVE AN A!), then you do not have to do ADDITIONAL remediation (you still need to address the benchmarks that didn’t hit the target). But I will give you points for ALL work you complete. Step 1: Reflect on your test performance. (Required for all students) Start with the overall score, and then look at your success in each benchmark that was covered on the test. Go into Performance Matters and for each of the benchmarks assessed on the Cycle 1 Assessment, record your score FOR EACH BENCHMARK ASSESSED on the Cycle 1 Test. You find this data in performance matters. To find your scores, go to performance matters through Clever, click on student portal in the middle of your screen (not online testing), and then local test results. Once you are in the main screen there is a settings cog in the top right hand corner that lets you change between testing and student portal. Drop down the score so you can see each individual benchmark. Reflecting on the test is worth 10 points. Your reflection is REQUIRED for your grade. FILL OUT THE TOP PART OF THE GRID SHEET!!!! Step 2: Remediate the benchmarks that you did NOT master (Required for all students, but not everyone has to complete the same amount of work) For each of the benchmarks that you did not meet or exceed 70%, complete the remediation assignment in ALBERT for that section. Each benchmark remediation assignment is on a separate page in this document. SCROLL DOWN. Go to Clever and open the ALBERT icon. Add yourself to the correct class using the CORRECT code for your class period (I have them on paper if you haven’t already added the class). Then, based on your success on the Cycle 1 Assessment, complete the required remediation assignment in ALBERT. These are chunked by topics. If you are required to complete any of the benchmarks included in the section (marked on the grid sheet) you need to complete the entire assignment in ALBERT. Once you complete the assignment, it will show you a total score (it will also tell you the correct answer, read the explanations). Screen shot the score report. (Windows Key + Shift + S---- draw box around the window---- click in the document in the right place---- Ctrl-V) If you get less than 70% on the assignment it is worth 5 POINTS of extra credit. If you get MORE than 70% on the assignment, you get 10 points of extra credit. ALBERT will NOT let you have multiple attempts on the assignment. BUT I WILL! You have to ask me to reassign you the assignment. You can get a MAXIMUM of 60 points EXTRA CREDIT on the remediation assignment. When you have finished upload this whole document into Canvas so I can add the points to your grade. The remediation assignment is in Focus as a 10 point assignment, those 10 points are for completing the reflection assignment based on the results in Performance Matters AND for completing all of the remediations that data requires you to complete. The points that you get for the actual answers to the remediation assignment are added as extra credit on top of that ten points and go directly to improving your quarter grade. If you choose to complete extra remediation, above and beyond the required work, I will give you credit for that work. This is a generous extra credit opportunity that allows you to recover points that you didn’t earn throughout the unit. Use it to your advantage.
Part 1: Reflect on your test performance. REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS Overall Test Grade: (this is your test grade in Focus) Why do you think you got that score? What are you going to do the same for the next test? What are you going to change? Benchmark # Benchmark Percent Mastery Remediation Required SC.912.E.7.1 Water & Carbon Cycles: Analyze the movement of matter and energy through the different biogeochemical cycles, including water and carbon. Remediation 1 SC.912.L.14.3 Comparing Cells: Compare and contrast the general structures of plant and animal cells. Compare and contrast the general structures of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Remediation 2 SC.912.L.14.7 Plant Structures & Functions: Relate the structure of each of the major plant organs and tissues to the physiological processes. Remediation 3 SC.912.L.15.1 also assesses SC.912.L.15.1 0 Theory of Evolution: Explain how the scientific theory of evolution is supported by the fossil record, comparative anatomy, comparative embryology, biogeography, molecular biology, and observed evolutionary change. Trends in Hominid Evolution: Identify basic trends in hominid evolution, including: brain size, jaw size, language development, and tool use. Remediation 4 SC.912.L.15.1 3 Natural Selection: Describe the conditions required for natural selection, including: overproduction of offspring, inherited variation, and the struggle to survive, which results in differential reproductive success. Remediation 4 SC.912.L.15.1 4 also assesses SC.912.L.15.1 5 Mechanisms of Evolutionary Change: Discuss mechanisms of evolutionary change other than natural selection such as genetic drift and gene flow. Genetic Variation: Describe how mutation and genetic recombination increase genetic variation. Remediation 4 SC.912.L.15.6 also assesses SC.912.L.15.4 SC.912.L.15.5 Characteristics of Domains & Kingdoms: Discuss distinguishing characteristics of the domains and kingdoms of living organisms. Classification : Describe how and why organisms are hierarchically classified and based on evolutionary relationships. Changes in Classification: Explain the reasons for changes in how organisms are classified. Remediation 5 SC.912.L.15.8 Origin of Life: Describe the scientific explanations of the origin of life on Earth. Remediation 4 SC.912.L.16.2 Inheritance Patterns: Discuss observed inheritance patterns caused by various modes of inheritance, including dominant, recessive, codominant, sex-linked, polygenic and multiple alleles. Remediation 6 SC.912.L.18.9 Also assesses SC.912.L.18.7 SC.912.L.18.8 SC.912.L.18.1 0 Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration: Explain the interrelated nature of photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Photosynthesis: Identify the reactants, products and basic functions of photosynthesis. Cellular Respiration: Identify the reactants, products and basic functions of aerobic and anaerobic cellular respiration. Remediation 1
ATP: Connect the role of ATP to energy transfer within a cell. Remediation 1: Movement of Water and Carbon/ Photosynthesis and Respiration SC.912.E.7.1 Water & Carbon Cycles: Analyze the movement of matter and energy through the different biogeochemical cycles, including water and carbon. SC.912.L.18.9 SC.912.L.18.7 SC.912.L.18.8 SC.912.L.18.10 Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration: Explain the interrelated nature of photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Photosynthesis: Identify the reactants, products and basic functions of photosynthesis. Cellular Respiration: Identify the reactants, products and basic functions of aerobic and anaerobic cellular respiration. ATP: Connect the role of ATP to energy transfer within a cell. Albert Assignment: Movement of Water and Carbon ScreenShot of Grade from Albert (make sure I can see your name somewhere in the picture): (Windows Key + Shift + S---- draw box around the window---- click in the document in the right place---- Ctrl-V) If your score is less than 70%, this assignment is worth 5 EC points. If it is better than 70%, this is worth 10 EC points. If you want a second attempt, let me know and I will reassign the assignment to you. The best score is what you screenshot. If it doesn’t match what I see attached to your account in ALBERT, it is not worth points. What did you find difficult to answer? What do you understand better now that you have practiced the benchmarks?
