After taking the seven required courses for the BA in Christian Leadership, I was able to
witness a tremendous growth in my leadership. Before I started taking Leadership classes, the
only strategical way for me to lead was to genuinely love people. Although that may be the
foundation of leading, I did not quite understand what it meant to be a leader, yet alone, lead
people.
Through these seven classes on Christian Leadership, I was able to learn the practicality
of loving and leading people. Through these classes, I was able to see myself being more
confident in decisions I made. Another thing I also learned was that through these classes, I have
a great understanding of leading people, but at the same time, I have realized how much I do not
know. Taking these classes is just the beginning to my journey of loving God and his people.
LE350 - History and Foundations of Leadership:
1.
Explain the connection between Discipleship and Regeneration using Scripture.
(Remember that the student wrote a paper connected to a “bar code Christian.”)
When God regenerates a person’s heart, the person becomes born again (John 3:3). Through
regeneration, the person will have a heart of flesh, instead of a heart of stone. The person then
will be able to receive convictions from the Holy Spirit regarding sin and disobedience. Through
regeneration, it is our mandate to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. In John 21:19, Jesus’ last words
were, “Follow Me”. The Bible also says in 1 John 5:3, “For this is the love of God, that we keep
his commandments”. The Bible says if the love of God is in us, we will keep his commandments.
Following Jesus is a way the Christian is able to keep his commandments. Through this, the fruit
of regeneration would be discipleship, following Jesus and keeping his commandments.
2.
Explain Jesus' method of Discipleship based on his teaching/modeling with the Twelve.
This should encompass the 8 steps of making a disciple found in
The Master Plan of
Discipleship.
The way Jesus discipled was not only different, but it changed the world. The way Jesus
discipled was first, Jesus was intentional in choosing who to disciple. Jesus was not looking for
smart, educated, high-social class people, but Jesus chose common men and women to reach the
world. This not only shows his great love for people. But also his confidence in them as well.
Jesus would not just teach them and leave, but Jesus would associate and fellowship with the
disciples. Jesus then required obedience from his disciples. Jesus did not require the disciples to
be smart or rich, but Jesus wanted loyalty. Jesus wanted them to be consecrated, to the point that
obeying him became the distinguishing mark they were known by. What Jesus also did was he
gave everything to his disciples. Jesus literally gave everything and withheld nothing, even his
own life. Jesus would also demonstrate how to live as a follower of Jesus. Jesus taught them how
to pray, read, study, and love others. As Jesus demonstrated, Jesus also delegated
responsibilities to the disciples. Jesus sent out the disciples casting demons, healing the sick, and
to expect hardships. As Jesus gave them roles and responsibilities, Jesus kept checking on them.
When Jesus gave them assignments and responsibilities, Jesus followed up on their reports and
blessed them. Through all this, Jesus expected them to reproduce. The Great Commission
consists of Jesus telling the disciples to make disciples of all nations.
3.
What are the qualities that you would look for in a person you would like to disciple?
The qualities I look for in a person are hunger, available, and teachable. If they have a hunger,
then they will be willing to receive and grow. If they are available, they would have time to invest
in their spiritual life. And if they are teachable, they are not only humble, but they are loyal and
willing to commit.
4.
Using Ephesians 4:1-16 (especially verses 11-13) as your text, explain the importance of
delegation in the ministry of the New Testament Church.
The importance of delegation in ministry is shown in Ephesians 4:1-16. Through each saint
having different roles and responsibilities, it will equip the other saints for the work of ministry,
build up the body of Christ, and the unity of the faith and the knowledge of God will grow into
maturity. Through unity, we will grow up in every way into Christ, the head. When the whole
body is held together, and when each part works properly, the body will build itself in love.
LE354 - Leadership Theories and Models:
1.
List the 5 C’s of the ConneXions Model of leadership development. Explain each and
make sure you place them in the correct developmental order.
There are 5 C’s of the ConneXions Model of leadership development. The first C of the
ConneXions Model is Christ. The reason why Christ is the first C is because the leader’s
personal relationship with Christ must be first. The leader must know God. Out of the leader’s
relationship with Christ will proceed every other aspect of the leader’s leadership. The second C
is Community. The leader’s personal relationship with Jesus must be expressed in the daily life of
the leader’s community, which includes his family, church family, friends, and the broader
community of the world. The third C is Character. Character is needed for a leader to be
effective, and character is needed for God to trust. Through community, the character the leader
needs will be formed. When the indwelling life of Christ is expressed in community, it will
develop godly character. Once the leader has godly character, only then can God trust that
leader with a calling. The fourth C is Calling. The leader needs calling to do the will of God.
The leader can have character, and a great desire to be a leader, but without a Divine vision or
calling, the leader will have nowhere to take his or her followers, and this leader will
accomplish little of lasting value. This being said, the last C is competency. The leader can be
burning with great vision and can have holy character, but without the technical abilities to lead,
the leader will be followed with frustration and confusion. All this being said, the 5 C’s must stay
in order. For every great leader, Christ must be first. Once the leader walks with God, everything
will flow from his or her love for God. By this, the leader’s personal relationship with Christ
must be carried out in various communities. By being an example of Christ’s love to people, that
is when godly character is formed. Through godly character, God can give the leader a calling,
because God is able to trust the leader. Once God gives the leader a calling, the leader must
have or be given the competency to lead.
2.
Psalm 78:70-72 speaks of David as having three of the C’s. What are they? How does this
psalm explain them to us?
Psalm 78:70-72 shows us that David had three of the C’s of leadership. David had calling,
character and the competencies to lead the way God intended him to do. In verse 70-71, it shows
us that God had chosen David, and God has called him to be a shepherd of the people of Israel.
In verse 72a, it reveals David having character, because David had lead the people with
integrity of heart. Lastly, 72b reveals that David had the competency to lead. It states that David
lead with skillful hands.
3.
Jesus' core focus was threefold. Name all three and explain them.
Jesus’ core that created a transformational context around his leaders was a spiritual
environment, a relational web, and an experiential context. Jesus’ spiritual environment involved
a relationship with God the Father. This was done through prayer. The second core focus was
creating a relational web. Jesus involved relationships with others, such as his disciples. Lastly,
Jesus created an experiential context. This involves challenging assignments, pressure, and a
diversity of learning opportunities.
4.
Give 3 explanations for the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles.
5.
Provide either a contemporary or biblical example, as well as one possible suggestion per
deterrent to increase representation of women.
LE347 - Principles of Christian Leadership:
(Based on the Kevin Harney text only)
1.
(Answer only the last question)
How is your heart? Is it strong and healthy? Is it weak
and faltering? Has it stopped beating altogether? Of the 8 items on the Symptoms Check,
p. 25...which two are weakest in your personal experience? Name each of the two and
suggest your intentions for strengthening them?
During Spring of 2016, the Lord began to reveal how faint my heart became. The two weakest
are probably “I minister more out of duty, than out of love for God” and “I can go days or even
weeks without sitting at the feet of Jesus, feeding on his Word, or speaking with him in prayer”.
The reason why I would choose these two is because I felt burned out. Ministry became a duty,
rather than joy, and preaching became a burden, rather than being an overflow of love. I would
catch myself spending quality time in the Word about twice a week, and any more became a
burden. I would realize that my prayer life decreased immensely, and if I tried to pray more, I
became more burned out. The way I came back to ministering out of an overflow of God’s love,
and the way began to hunger and thirst for the Word and Prayer was falling in love with Jesus
all over again. As I was praying and seeking after God, he reminded me of his extravagant love,
and his unending mercies. Through then, my heart was filled with joy and courage, where
everything I do is out of his love, and truly enjoying his presence in the Word and prayer.

Why is being a Christian leader dangerous business? Looking for 4 answers.
There are plenty of reasons why being a Christian leader is dangerous business. One of the
reasons why being a Christian leader is dangerous business is because of it is a heavy burden to
carry. To continue to give yourself away to the people you are leading can lead to depression,
etc. Any Christian leader must be mindful of their own soul care if he or she desires to care for
other souls. Another reason why it is dangerous business is because of people. A Christian
leader is always dealing with people. Because of this, the lightest of actions can damage
relationships, or even people. The third reason why being a Christian leader is dangerous
business is because of the opposition Satan throws at us. Because of this, each leader must be
alert how Satan is attacking either them, or the people God entrusted them. Lastly, the reason
why being a leader is dangerous is because a leader, or a teacher will be judged more harshly by
God says the Bible (James 3:1).
3.
P. 48 lists 4 questions this set of leaders asked each other as they met together. How
would you answer these 4 questions today?
(Graded on an attempt at honesty personally)
I read the Word 5 times a week, and I seek the face of God in prayer 6 days a week usually. One
lesson I learned that I carried with me the past couple days is how God listens to prayers that
come from a broken and a contrite heart. Hannah’s broken heart in 1 Samuel reveals God’s
grace over the broken. The past couple of months, I wanted to bless my mother in every way
possible. So I began taking her out to eat anywhere she wants once a month. I have been buying
her groceries and also things that she needs. I also been trying to have more conversations with
her, and I have been honoring her in every way possible. The way you can pray for me is first,
for God to provide for all my needs, whether that is financial, or if that is courage. Another one
is direction. God opened a door for me to serve at a different church as the high school pastor,
and I am wrestling in prayer and in doubt.
4.
Prov. 5: 15-21, lists 5 warnings or
cautions
in the first 3 verses about sexuality as a
leader. Name them. Then go on to read the rest of the scripture reference above. Now, we
see affirmations of sexuality within the marriage covenant. The leader who is married is
to be a blessing to his or her spouse. In what two ways are we to bless our spouses
sexually?
1.
Drink water from my own cistern
2.
Rejoice in my wife
3.
Let my wife alone fill me with delight
4.
Do not be intoxicated by another woman
5.
Don’t embrace the bosom of an adulteress
I am not married, nor do I have a wife. I do believe I am called to please her in whatever she
wishes and I am not to force her to do things she wouldn’t want to do.
LE360 - Ethics and Leadership:
1.
First introduced by Christian apologist C. S. Lewis, what threefold approach (what three
principle areas) must be considered when developing a ministerial code of ethics?
According to C.S Lewis, the three principles that must be considered when developing a
ministerial code of ethics are, “What do the codes have to say about the inner moral life of the
practitioner, the relationships between individuals, and the purpose of the human life as a
whole?”.
2.
Being absolutely central to ministry- if the whole of any Christian ministerial code of
ethics were to be summed up in one word, what would it be?
If the whole of any Christian ministerial code of ethics were to be summed up in one word, the
word would be, “integrity”. x
3.
Understanding that Christian clergy are held to a higher standard than other professionals,
and in addition to professional standards” and “practical considerations”, what two
elements distinguish the ministerial code of ethics from other professional ethics codes?
The two elements that distinguish the ministerial code of ethics from other professional ethic
codes is, the moral character of the clergy, and the relationships between individuals.
4.
Of all the areas of ministerial caution and concern addressed in the course, which single
area presented the most serious warnings, held the direst consequences, and was the most
devastating to the minister, their family, their congregation and their reputation in the
community?
To my understanding and reading, I believe the most serious caution and concern that is the
most devastating to the minister, their family, their congregation and their reputation is sexual
sin.
LE401 - Personal Leadership Assessment:
1.
Under the topic, motives of a Christian leader, list the 4 motivations found in I Thess. 2
and the verse attributed to each.
1.
To spread the gospel (v.2)
2.
Please God and not man (v.4)
3.
To tell people what they needed to hear, not what they necessarily wanted to hear
(v. 5)
4.
To serve God (v. 5)
2.
The biblical image that is most common and dominant for leaders in the bible is that of a
servant
. What are four characteristics of this type of leadership? In addition to this,
What 2 references in the Gospels most clearly teach these characteristics?
The four characteristics of a servant-type leadership are humility, service, focusing on others,
and love. Humility, service, and focusing on others are taught in Matthew 20. In John 13, love is
clearly emphasized.
LE403 - Leadership and Conflict Transformation:
1.
Human beings deal with conflict in 3 ways. List each and explain. Then list 4 examples
of the each of the first 2 ways of dealing with conflict. Give the behavior title, scripture
and explanation.
The three ways human beings deal with conflict are called, “Fake peace, Break peace, Make
peace”. When you fake peace, you escape, making things look good by throwing on a smile and
shrugging that you’re okay. When you break peace, you attack, tearing up relationships to get
what you want. Lastly, make peace is when the person decides to work it out, aiming to resolve
clashes my searching out solutions that create real justice and genuine harmony. There are four
examples of faking peace. The first is denial. In 1 Samuel 2:22-25, when Eli chose to ignore his
son’s sinful behavior. Another one is blaming. In Genesis 3:12-13, we see Adam and Eve trying
to dodge their responsibility of obedience. Another one is running away which is shown in
Genesis 16:6-8 when Hagar decides to run away. Lastly, it is suicide. We see King Saul killing
himself to escape captivity in 1 Samuel 31:4.
There are also four ways a person is able to break
peace.
One way is throwing insults, that is shown in Nehemiah 4:1-3. We see that Sanballat is
insulting the Jews as they were building the wall. Another way is gossip. In Proverbs 16:28, it
states that gossip separates close friends. The third way is by fighting. We are able to see Peter
cutting off a guard’s ear in John 18:10, which reveals a violent reaction to conflict. Lastly, we
see in Acts 6:8-15 how murder is used to deal with conflict. When Stephen was preaching, the
religious rulers silenced Stephen by stoning him to death.
2.
In biblical terms, an idol is something other than God that does 3 possible things for us.
Name these 3 and provide a sentence of explanation.
There are three possible things that an idol other than God can do for us. One thing the idol can
do is capture our heart. The idol can capture our fascination, energy and affection. Another
thing the idol can do is dominate our thoughts, which include our attention, fears, and sense of
right and wrong. Lastly, the idol can control our behaviors. The way it does so is by controlling
our time, money, words, and actions.
3.
We have stated that '
overlooking-letting go of a wrong done to you'
is a peacemaker’s first
option in responding to conflict. When should you not let it go or overlook it? Name the 4
Overlooking clearly isn’t the way to go when a wrong creates a wall between you and the other
person, makes you feel differently toward someone for an extended time, causes serious hurt to
the offender, inflicts significant harm on the victim, and lastly, does obvious damage to God’s
reputation.
4.
You have a chance to forgive as the Lord has forgiven you, by deciding to make 4
concrete promises to that person. What are these 4 promises?
The four concrete promises that a person must do in order to forgive is:

LE405 - Organizational Envisioning:
I have not taken this course.
1.
Name the 10 reasons for having a clear and well-articulated vision for your ministry?
2.
The author suggests a definition for leader in chapter one of the text, “I define a leader as

and (
) and his followers (
).
3.
In chapter 3, the visionary leader is given the role of vision caster (which we too must be
as leaders). Identify the 3 roles of a vision caster and explain each with a 1-2 sentence
explanation.
4.
In chapter 6, the author refers to the work of John Kotter. In this he suggests that
leadership copes with change through 3 steps. List the 3 steps given by Kotter and the 3
corresponding titles given each by the author.
