Assignment 2: Unit Reflection Aditya Gupta Faculty of Arts, Wilfrid Laurier University AF 105: Skills for University Success Dr. Nadeem Saqlain February 17, 2022
Equally priority for all courses I believe any student should have importance for all their courses and prioritize them equally. I do as I used to prioritize other methods instead of balancing them all. This had caused me to slack off in a handful of my courses and had resulted in my average going down in high school. Fortunately, I had learned to balance everything, and maintaining a schedule for each class has helped me stay on top of my work and not fall behind. Preparation for exams Preparation for exams is essential, as the amount of studying you do is shown by the exam result. I believe a healthy time to start exams would be a week prior, as it gives you time to check the syllabus to see what will be on the exam and ask any of your professors or TA's questions regarding the exam. I did not have any good organization skills during high school and had always left studying till the last minute. Fortunately, I was in a course called "GLS" that had prepared me for essential skills like responsibility and organization. To this day, I use those techniques I had been taught and am successful in studying for exams. As a group leader and as a group member, how can you make your group more effective in a group project? In group projects, I find that it could be a hit or miss, either one person does all the work and the other group members take credit, or everyone does their part, and there are no issues. I find that talking between group members can help make a group successful, as the main problem between group projects is communication; if there is none, it cannot work. An influential group can be formed if everyone receives their tasks, and group calls are beneficial as well, as group members can get together and review their project to see if there are any errors. Trusting yourself An essential thing to do in life is to trust yourself. I had an issue with this growing up as I always used to doubt myself with every little thing and had to seek reassurance. This was a very terrible trait I had, and it had taken me a long time to get rid of it. Whenever I need to make a serious decision, I never second guess myself as I know I am doing the right thing. During class, we had watched a video where a student named Blaze Welling gave us some tips to be successful in university, and she had mentioned trusting yourself. Using the career center as an undergraduate The career center is not only for undergraduate students but also for first-year to final year undergraduate and graduate students. A career center is a valuable tool for all students as it helps students figure out what they want to do with their careers. I have not looked into it yet, but I plan to very soon. The center offers many services, such as professional advice with your resume. Finally, the best part is that it is entirely free for Laurier students.
Choose one program/service of your interest from the Center of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and describe its details. I find that there have been many issues with racism with brown individuals like me, and it is nice to see how there is a group that is making a change. I believe the Black student services at Laurier are an empowering group within the university. Modern racism is quite a big issue in today's society. This large group and its peers are doing a fantastic job by empowering the Black community and working together with Laurier to challenge social and racial inequalities. Choose one program that you are eligible to apply from the financial aid category. At the beginning of the year, I had looked at some financial aid options and had chosen the OSAP. OSAP is a great support system for struggling students who cannot afford education. This had helped me as a student with textbooks and tuition.
