POWER POINT #18 COMPLETION SURVEY DUE Sunday, 10/29 at 11:59PM View Power Point #18 and Listen to the Listening Links (links are within the slides). Then answer these 3 questions from the Power Point. Name __________ Panther ID __________ 1. What is the most famous example of an oratorio, as shown in this power point? Messiah 1742 by George Frideric Handel – was the most famous example of an oratorio. 2. Give one example of instrumental music from the Baroque. Dances of a Suite was a group of short dances performed by instruments. Example: Bach Partita in D minor for Violin Solo written 1717-1720. 3. Which is your favorite Baroque musical genre we have looked at (either vocal or instrumental: opera, oratorio, cantata, suite, concerto)? Why? I enjoy opera most of all when it comes to Baroque music. Opera is a type of musical theater that tells a dramatic story by combining acting, singing, and scenic design. Extensive staging, sets, and costumes are frequently used. Characters in operas sometimes perform solo songs and sung conversations to represent feelings and plot points. A complete orchestra, which can be rather large and comprise a variety of instruments to give a rich and dramatic musical backdrop, is used to accompany operas. Singers in opera dress in costume and act out parts to represent their characters. A crucial component of the performance is the visual aspects. A vast variety of stories can be told through operas, including fairy tales from mythology, romantic tragedies, and historical plays.
