POWER POINT #20 COMPLETION SURVEY DUE Sunday, 11-5-23 at 11:59PM View Power Point #20, Listen to the three Listening Links (links are within the slides) and answer these 3 questions from the Power Point. Name _____________ Panther ID _____________ 1. What was the size of the Classical Era symphony orchestra? The size of a symphony orchestra in the classical era (from the mid-18th to the beginning of the 19th century) usually included fewer musicians compared to a modern symphony orchestra. The exact size and instrumentation of classical era orchestras varied, but a typical orchestra of this period would consist of strings, woodwinds, bass, percussion, and keyboard. The size of the orchestra could vary from one composer or piece to another. Because some symphonies and orchestral compositions could have been written for small ensembles, while others could have been for large groups. As the classical era progressed, the size of orchestras tended to increase, and the orchestration became more standardized. The heart of the Classical orchestra (thirty to forty players) was the strings. 2. How many symphonies did Beethoven write? Ludwig van Beethoven composed a total of nine symphonies. These symphonies are some of the most famous and influential works in the classical music repertoire. The most famous is his Fifth, built on a four-note motive that appears in all 4 movements of the work. 3. What thoughts or emotions do you experience, listening to the Moonlight Sonata ? Ludwig van Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" is considered very close and familiar to me. Because when, as a child, my brother and I went to music and piano lessons, my brother's favorite sonata was "Moonlight Sonata". Mine was "Für Elise." I always really liked listening to my brother play this on the piano. I consider it one of Beethoven's most famous compositions. Every time I listen to him, I have a feeling of mystery, a little sadness, and inner struggle. However, at the same time, this melody can calm me down
and put all my thoughts in order. Moreover, this composition was used for the trailer of my favorite computer game. It started playing when the main character was about to go on his last mission to save the world, and all of humanity was terrified in chaos, but he did not give up and went to save the world.
