Academic Path Reflection
There is a pathway through your education journey. My educational journey was a more difficult
pathway. I was raised in an unstable home which made me work harder in school when I was old
enough to learn about my experience I was going through. Middle school, I was not taking my
grades into consideration. High school was more challenging with an IEP (Individualized
Education Plans) I had extra help with my assignments as needed. My junior year of high school
is when I decided to take criminal justice at a vocational school. Of course, I explored several
different colleges, but none were a perfect fit for me and struggling to graduate after my entire
family left me alone three months before graduation. I choose GCU (Grand Canyon University)
because faith and God is a crucial factor to have in your education and personal life.
My program of study is Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Health Science with an Emphasis in
Family Dynamics. I am excited to be on the path to my bachelors and I am looking forward to
taking the major classes. I have 19 major classes amounting to 30 outstanding credits before I am
awarded my bachelors. Some of my classes are Human Development, Understanding trauma,
and social problems.
My education plan is big but possible. My primary plan is to become a social worker so I can
help children in unstable or unhealthy homes. I am looking forward to helping children who
cannot help themselves. I plan to finish my bachelors in three years and be the best social worker
I can be. Being a social worker means helping the future of the universe take better paths in life.
University Success has prepared me for success in my future classes by preparing me for essays
and participation and what is expected of me every day in class. It has taught me about the 5

competencies and how procrastination can destroy your focus in your class. It has taught me
about plagiarism and how you to safely use information from other sources. I learned about the
code of conduct and academic integrity and how different they are. I learned that doing
classwork in my spare time or when I have a minute between things to work on my assignments
rather than rushing through an assignment and getting a terrible grade. I learned that time
management and prioritizing can save you from procrastination and bad grades. I have learned to
combine activities, so I do not fall behind. I was taught that everything cannot be done at once
and to not bite off more than I can chew. Also, planning backwards is a good strategy to help you
plan a schedule so that you have enough time to prepare for the assignments and tests in your
course. Lastly, I have learned to set the pace early in the semester because habits are hard to
break and that is why I turned my studying behaviors into my habits.
