One of the main problems with the utopian society that I find most problematic is that over time life would get boring considering there is nothing exciting happening. Individuals do the same things during most of their days and their lives would start to become unoriginal. They are required to work so many hours a day on agriculture and so many hours a day on their trade and also in their garden. In the text, it states, “After supper they devote an hour to recreation, in their garden in the summer,…”One aspect of utopian culture that I think would defy logic, especially in today's time is that most everyone is willing to do the same thing during most of their days and also having to uphold such standards that keep them from being who they want to be considering it is their life they are living. They are mostly confined to working in the agricultural field and in their spare time work on a hobby. In the text, it states, “Every person (and this includes women as well as men) learns a second trade, besides agriculture.” The women are to practice the lighter crafts while the sons take after their father's craft but if either wants to learn something different they have to be adopted out of the house in order for them to pursue the craft they want to learn. In the text, it states, “But if anyone is attracted to another occupation, he is transferred by adoption into a family practicing the trade he prefers.” Considering they can only learn one craft besides agriculture I can see how their lives could get boring easily and become unexciting.
