Silvia Rodriguez 331 -1 Excavating the Future in Los Angeles – Mike Davis Mike Davis argues that Los Angeles has been the fastest growing metropolis in the advanced industrial world, and writes about the crime, pollution, racism and poverty that characterize the city, then argues how the usage of millions of dollars spent on museums and buildings could have spent on the poverty of the city. Davis states that the city of Los Angeles uses the fancy building and famous museums and cities to cover up for the poverty and racism that has been occurring in the city for a long time. Many of us who grew up in L.A.'s comfortable suburbs, on the other hand, were exposed to another kind of community, to be found not in the streets. Davis offers countless examples of how this city is being hardened against the poor, either through walls that isolate buildings from streets or through a lack of social services. The second way that the author addresses the issue is by mentioning the way in which the city has become more segregated, park are becoming more derelict. Libraries and park are closing, and streets are becoming more dangerous. This is something that when presenting the city of Los Angeles to foreign, is not mentioned. the author is trying to give the other face of the nice picture that is being painted in the city. The way in which public places are segregated talks a lot about the city. The usage of money in famous museums where the poverty rate is higher than before is another thing is not talked about Los Angeles. In sum, the author tries to convince the reader that even that the cover of the city of Los Angeles, there is more than just the pretty building and the famous locations, the inequality in the city is destroying the economy and the communities, the schools need more money for better education for the people. The city needs more work, the crime in the city has also increase. Los Angeles need more examining before describing the city, because the issues on the communities are not all the time studied, or do not have the same attention as the popular things that characterize the city.
