Fallacy- Relying on case examples 8. Fallacy- Relying on testimonials SCORE: 13 POINTS A family friend of mine committed a thinking fallacy by relying on testimonials when considering a product. Her daughter was born with not much hair, and what she did have was thin and brittle. She tried different oils and continued brushing and stimulating the scalp, but her hair wasn’t growing fast enough. She was scrolling on Tiktok one evening and saw a woman post a single before and after picture of her little girl’s hair. In only two months, the lady claimed her daughter’s hair had grown significantly using this hair oil and bonnet. She instantly went to the company’s website and ordered the product. She didn’t look for any more reviews, evidence-based information on the product, or success stories. The product took weeks to come in, and she regretted the purchase because it did not give her daughter’s hair growth the results she wanted at the same time as the lady she viewed on Tiktok.
