Stealing Beauty
Hi everyone and God bless you all. This week I must react to the article Stealing Beauty,
published in World Magazine in March 2004.
After reading the article from the World Magazine I understand and perspective on the
topic but as Christians we need to learn that modern society is moving differently. I respect
everyone’s worldview and perspectives so I can be respected. My issue with this article comes
with the statement that today’s art “fails as art” (Edward Veith 2004, para. 50). Art is a
communication resource to express and share a perspective or worldview about certain topics. I
think that instead of criticizing other people’s art we must promote and support art forms with
Christian values, and moral perspectives. We are part of that consumerism and part of the issue. I
think it all depends on what we consume as a society. Is like eating fast food I know that the food
is not healthy for my body but I still stop and buy food. In my opinion, art is art from a guy who
is carving a wood piece in their garage to a worldwide known artist who is doing a presentation
in a museum. The issue all depends on us as Christians supporting a better art quality message by
consuming the art pieces with a proper message. 2 Timothy 4:2 New International Version,
“Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with
great patience and careful instruction".
I think that instead of promoting to young people a God
full of rules and punishment we need to refocus as believers and start to promote a God full of
love and respect to others to promote that more people start to consume art forms with a
Christian message with quality and values.
Remember to keep moving forward and blessings,
Yamil
