1 Idealism in Education: 2.1 Idealism Vignette Linsey Stanley Department of Education: Arkansas State University ELFN 6763: Philosophies of Education Dr. Jackie McBride January 21, 2024
2 Idealism in the sense of education identified the purpose of the school is characterized by the “universal principle of generality, according to which more specific, immediate, and particular goals are derived from those that are higher, more abstract, general, and inclusive.” (Gutek, 2014, p. 36). Idealists in education believe in successive and cumulative processes; Teachers and administrators teach in a way that allows students to build their knowledge through “increasingly complex and sophisticated content.” (Gutek, 2014, p. 36). The content that is taught to students should build off their previous knowledge but should also be able to be applied to any student in a general or broad fashion. The No Child Left Behind Act was created to provide more education to four specific groups: student in poverty, students of color, students receiving special education services, and those who speak limited or no English. The No Child Left Behind Act holds schools accountable for how students learn and achieve through annual testing and reporting. This act, broad in nature, would be supported by Idealists in education through the generality of the act and the support of the Doctrine of Preparation that is being supported through the processes implemented through NCLB. I would support my school principal in implementing this program in the district and other districts to promote NCLB. The act aims to support all students in learning and as an educator, it is my duty to fully support this as well. The No Child Left Behind Act was not created to tell teachers how they need to teach, it was created to provide the best education to all learners. In supporting this, as an educator I am implementing the Doctrine of Preparation for all students at all levels. Implementing a program that supports data-based instruction is important to all districts, as well as supporting learners at all levels. In supporting my principal, I am supporting best practices in education and providing an environment in which, all students are learning a general education and are measured at the same levels. `
