Discourse Communities Shanterika Foy] January 14,2024 Herzing University Assignment 1 1
Discourse Communities It has been fascinating to study conversation this past week. To be honest, I didn't know anything about discourse until this week, therefore I didn't see it as I now see it. The churches I visit are the discourse communities I am a part of. One more Discourse Community is the on- campus school I attend. Facebook, which I also use can be thought of as a debate community. I think that in school, we always talk about homework, specific assignments, and occasionally our personal lives. We study alongside other students most of the time, sometimes even asking each other questions when we don't grasp something because we become closer as a group. I would say that the language we use is sophisticated because it can be difficult for certain people who haven't been exposed to the medical area. In addition, we are studying nursing, so I am aware that it will be difficult. Our dual objectives in nursing school are to pass the NCLEX and graduate. The next generation of nurses will be those pursuing nursing degrees. Nursing must thus emphasize to students that racism in the US is bred by attitudes that are anti- inclusion and anti-diversity ("Nursing Role in the Diversity and Inclusive Excellence Discourse in the United States," 2017). Upon starting nursing school, I had to modify my speech since I now had to familiarize myself with and adjust to the material in my nursing studies. There are numerous textbooks, care plans, and regulations to adhere to when attending nursing school. Attending a clinical introduces you to a completely new discourse—that of a nurse, which you will eventually find yourself in. Clinicals are an excellent way to gain experience and experience what it will be like to work as a nurse. You have the chance to learn new things and develop yourself because of the abundance of experiences you have. The second topic I'll talk about is church. As a Christian, I think that having a relationship with God is more important than having a religion. Our shared objectives include advancing morality, obtaining enlightenment, and extending the religion. Evangelization conforms members 2
Discourse Communities to obtain knowledge to recruit new members. The Christian discourse community communicates through both online bible study and in-person weekly meetings. Sunday school sessions, sermons on Sunday mornings, and bible study make up most of the in-person weekly meetings. To keep members informed about church events, bulletins are also distributed to them during Sunday sermons. This community's ideals are all derived from what the bible says, which is the Discourse Communities: Christians, Engineers, and Soldiers (2012) suggests a belief system that Christians ought to adhere to. The pastor, deacons, Sunday school teachers, church members, and community chapters make up Christianity's membership. I had to make several personal changes when I began going to church. I made a several things about me not because I was forced to, but rather because reading the Bible makes you aware of God's will for your life and inspires you to live it. You begin to see changes in your lifestyle when you give God permission to be a part of it. No matter what is happening in your life, you learn to worship God, and your faith begins to deepen. The members of our church gather three times a week. In addition to our Sunday sermons, we offer our members Bible studies and leadership training. We occasionally get together more frequently because we view one another as family in Christ. As members, we always communicate honestly about any conflicts that arise. If there are disagreements in our church, we cannot glorify God and carry out our duties. Tension is created by this, which is unhealthy. In general, I am really appreciative of the conversation communities I participate in. It provides you with the chance to develop personally and learn something new every day. Amazing things happen when you are willing to learn and adapt. Everyone belongs to a debate community, and you must accept others for their choices even if you do not share their views. 3
