Artwork is essential since it is a way of documenting and preserving people's history.

ancient cave paintings were still visible in the past and contributed to how ancient humans
expressed their feelings and communication. Therefore, currently, ancient and modern arts
express the values and beliefs of the people in society. An analysis of the winged victory
Samothrace and Les Demoiselles d'Avignon's artwork features is vital to demonstrate the value

Values: Challenging the society's culture
Artist: Pablo Picasso
Title: Les Demoiselles d’ Avignon
Textbook Page: The artwork is on page 184 of the textbook.
Date: 1907
Nationality of the Artist: Spain
Medium: Oil painting
Dimensions: The dimensions of the artwork are 243.9 x 233.7 cm
The Les Demoiselles d'Avignon is a popular oil painting created in 1907 to illustrate
modern world values. Pablo Picasso's artwork becomes popular due to the representation of
societal changes by displaying naked women on oil canvas (
Arnason & Mansfield, 2012). The
art represented the beginning of the cubist movement by displaying western world art. People
criticized the canvas paintings, while others appreciated the beautiful painting of naked women.
Art led to the evolution of expression freedom and a change in the social norm. The use of bright
colors and composition contributes to the energy of free expression in society. Pablo Picasso
utilized vivid colors and dark dynamic lines to illustrate movement and energy in the oil painting
(Wolfe, 2021). Therefore, the artist was creative in creating the masterpiece Les Demoiselles
d'Avignon since it has become very popular in the modern world as it illustrates personal
expression and an evolution of the traditional norms in society.
