2 Art Creation & Reflection – Photography/Cinema In the domain of artistic representation, the dynamic link between inspiration and the act of creation exerts a significant influence on the narrative and emotional depth of an artwork. In this contemplation, the paper highlights the profound connection between two distinct photographs: the renowned "Church, Taos Pueblo" by Ansel Adams and my personal work capturing a moment of baptism. The two images revolve around the central themes of faith and spirituality. This opening invites investigation into the intriguing interactions between the two images, examining the similarities and differences between them as well as the unique influence of the photography media on the observer's perspective. Church, Taos Pueblo, by Ansel (1941). Ansel Adams' 1941 image of a church in Taos Pueblo was selected as the inspired piece. The image depicts a calm and beautiful desert landscape, with an adobe chapel standing out as a representation of faith and unflinching fortitude. In the bleak desert landscape, the church becomes a ray of hope with its bell tower climbing toward the unobstructed sky. An archway
3 leading to the church, crowned with a cross, represents devotion and faith. The adobe construction of the church harmoniously blends with the desert surroundings, achieving a seamless integration of human-made structures with nature (Jacobus & Martin, 2018). From a distance, the church dominates the picture, giving it a feeling of size and seclusion. Though taken in a desolate desert, the image exudes a sense of peace, seclusion, and introspective contemplation. The ageless image depicts a real location while evoking a sentimental story of peace, resiliency, and faith. My Art Piece My Art Piece My baptism, a significant event in my life, is captured in the picture. It portrays the event against a beautifully curved marble wall, giving the occasion an appearance of grandeur and sophistication. Interestingly, a poster on the wall says, "I'm the one," which represents my unique spiritual path and the general feeling of happiness and festivity surrounding this spiritual achievement. The image has a timeless appeal due to the usage of a black and white color

4 scheme, which gives it a vintage feel. Although the event is deeply personal, the photograph also resonates with broader themes of faith, community, and personal growth. Connection The two photographs, although distinct in their subject matter, share a common thread centered on faith and spirituality. Adam’s picture portrays an adobe church situated within a desert landscape, symbolizing resilience and optimism in an otherwise barren environment (Jacobus & Martin, 2018). In contrast, my photograph captures a personal moment of baptism, signifying a significant milestone in an individual's spiritual journey. In terms of similarities, both images revolve around significant spiritual events and convey a profound sense of serenity and introspection. They both employ a monochromatic photography style, which imparts a timeless and classic quality to them (Roose, Roose, & Daenekindt, 2018). Nevertheless, they diverge in their focal points. The first image emphasizes the physical structure, namely the church, and its surroundings, whereas the second image delves into a more intimate perspective, focusing on the individuals and their emotional experiences during the baptism ceremony. Both images belong to the same artistic medium - photography. The choice enables the capturing of genuine moments and emotions with authenticity. The utilization of a black and white palette adds depth and nostalgia to the images, intensifying the emotional connection with the viewer (Roose, Roose, & Daenekindt, 2018). Regarding the formal elements of design, both photos effectively employ contrast. In Adam’s image, there is a striking contrast between the stark desert and the church. In my art, the contrast is seen between the two people and the backdrop of the poster. Additionally, the use of space, lines (such as the archway in Adam’s image and the curved wall in the second), and shapes (including the bell tower and cross in Adam’s image) contributes to the visual appeal and thematic richness of these photographs.
