her brother died. Instead of changing into the nurturing mother role, she raises Patrick in her world. When the executor of her brother's estate discovers the world that Patrick is living in, Patrick is sent to boarding school. Patrick returns to Mame every chance, and the two of them form a loving relationship. Mame then experiences the loss of all of her wealth in the stock market crash, and she tries to work several jobs but cannot keep employment. When she meets Beauregard, a wealthy man from Georgia, she marries him. She is then widowed suddenly. As Patrick ages, they do not always see eye-to-eye but still love one another. Patrick finds a young lady he wants to marry, and Mame disapproves. At the movie's end, Patrick has married the woman of Mame's choosing and has Peter. Peter and Mame then start building a relationship like she has with Patrick. As the movie starts, it is set in the 1920's. It progresses, and Mame experiences the Great Depression, seen by the loss of her things and her trying to work. In Mame, several things are shown that reflect the culture. This shows that there is still segregation, not just between the colored and whites, but anyone who doesn't fit into their societal circle. Mame won over her future mother- in-law by showing her that people from the North are just as good as Southerners. She made Patrick's future in-laws mad at her by buying the property next door to them and moving "those people" into a home for single mothers. This movie helped change the culture by showing people that being different is okay. The character of Mame was played by Lucille Ball, who used her quick wit and comedic timing to help a very controversial subject seem lighthearted. Since this movie, the segregation o
