No Child Left Behind “The quality of our public schools directly affects us all as parents, as students, and as citizens. Yet too many children in America are segregated by low expectations, illiteracy, and self-doubt. In a constantly changing world that is demanding increasingly complex skills from its workforce, children are literally being left behind.” - George W. Bush The purpose of No Child Left Behind is to provide all children with high quality education and giving them the resources to “educated to his/her full potential”
BluePrint Version 1 Originally the main points of the project were quite vague and undetailed, that changed later on. - Increase Accountability for Student Performance: States, districts and schools that improve achievement will be rewarded. Failure will be sanctioned. Parents will know how well their child is learning, and that schools are held accountable for their effectiveness with annual state reading and math assessments in grades 3-8. - Focus on What Works: Federal dollars will be spent on effective, research based programs and practices. Funds will be targeted to improve schools and enhance teacher quality. - Reduce Bureaucracy and Increase Flexibility: Additional flexibility will be provided to states and school districts, and flexible funding will be increased at the local level. - Empower Parents: Parents will have more information about the quality of their child's school. Students in persistently low-performing schools will be given choice
BluePrint Version 2 Later more detailed blueprint: - Improving the academic performance of disadvantaged students - Boosting teacher quality - Moving limited English proficient students to English fluency - Promoting informed parental choice and innovative programs - Encouraging safe schools for the 21 st Century - Increasing funding for Impact Aid - Encouraging freedom and accountability

Agenda Key Points - Closing the Achievement Gap - Improving Literacy by putting Reading First - Expanding Flexibility, Reducing Bureaucracy - Rewarding Success and Sanctioning Failure - Promoting Informed Parental Choice
What Was the Significance? The overall purpose of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) was to inherently get America caught up academically. Compared to other countries the U.S. was severely lagging and that worried a lot of people in response NCLB was created. In order to track academic progress NCLB mandated testing everywhere starting in 3rd grade and continuing until 8th grade. In addition to what seemed to be positive progress, many teachers rallied against the standardized testing on the basis that in order to receive funding students were narrowed down to seen only as their test scores in a dehumanizing manner. On top of that, with the focus of maintaining high test scores schools discouraged teachers creativity in the classroom. Which goes against a study that shows that creative teaching practices are seen to be more effective than standard teaching methods. Creative teaching methods reinforce students curiosity and interests and provide them with challenging that nourish their creativity.
