The grizzly bear is a member of the brown bear species and can be found in many parts
of the world. They possess large, humped shoulders and elevated foreheads. They are
unable to climb trees like other bears but are very fast runners. They are omnivorous
animals eating plants like berries and roots and meat like many hooved animals and
fish.
Describe three (3) significant behaviors exhibited by the animal.
Female grizzly bears most often give birth to cubs in sets of twins and give birth during
the months of January and February. Grizzly bears hibernate in winter which is a life
history strategy that bears have used to get through periods of time where food is low.
They have poor eyesight and are agile runners.
What is the geographical range of the animal? What type of habitat does it require to
exist?
Grizzly bears can be found in mountain forests, meadows, tundra’s, grasslands, and
costal areas. These animals’ habitat is highly adaptable and varies depending on many
factors. They are usually found in states like Alaska. Montana, and Wyoming. They have
historically ranged from the Pacific Ocean all the way to Mississippi.

The majority of grizzly bear risks come from resource exploitation, which includes
logging, road construction, oil and gas drilling, livestock grazing, and habitat
degradation.

Alpine bearberry is a shrub that is less than 6 inches tall and has leaves that are green
in the spring and summer but turn maroon during fall and winter. They are stalked
leaves with an oval shape and a network of veins. They have five sepals and a single
carpel. The plant flowers in June.
Describe three (3) significant features exhibited by the plant.
This plant produces flowers that are white or pink and the flower in groups. It has very
bright prominate crimson red color leaves and they grow in big groups in dry areas. The
fruits on in are ting round berries that are no bigger that 12mm and they turn from green
to glossy black when ripe.
What is the geographical range of the plant? What type of habitat does it require to
exist?
This plant can be found in high altitudes in very dry land. It can be found all over Europe
and in north America. It grows in forests with birch and pine trees that have mossy
ground and can be near the edges of bogs.
What type of human activity is threatening the habitat and existence of the plant?
Human activity that is threatening the habitat and existence of the plant is the destruction of
forests for human development and demand for natural resources.

Name of video: Carolina Sandhills
Josh is in one of his favorite spots in Sam Hill South Carolina.
Carolina Sand Hill national wildlife refuge in Macbee South Carolina. This is a place that is
home to the ordinary and extraordinary. This is in the part of South Carolina, that is in the
sandhills area which is a fire maintained longleaf pine ecosystem. One plant he talks about is a
plant called lead plant. It’s scientific name is Anorphia herbacea. This plant gets a very light and
sweet fragrance smell. native bees, mostly solitary nesting, bees in the state of South Carolina
love the pollen on this plant. If they very important plant for bees in pollen collectors but it is also
the larval source for silver spotted skipper, and as well southern dog face. One animal he talks
about is the northern bobwhite quail. This animal scientific name is Colinus virginianus. Colonel
Stanley Rikard call sis, Byrd, the prince of the game birds. Between John Deere fire ants and
other issues, including the suppression of fire. The population of the northern bobwhite quail has
dropped tremendously. Places like Carolina sandhills national wildlife refuge protects habitats,
and keeps fire, introduced into an ecosystem which maintains a healthy ecosystem and allows
wildlife and plants to thrive.
